Mac Baren Stockton
(3.06)
A spun tobacco, cut in small birds eyes. A very special, mild and cool smoke. Cavendish and dark-fired Kentucky this blend has a mellow sweetness with spicy, smoky undertones.
Notes: The natural sugar content of the ripe Virginia tobaccos gives Stockton a slight sweetness. Unsweetened cavendish made from smoked dark-fired Kentucky tobaccos has been added, giving a piquant taste. As a result, the tobacco is slightly bitter and rounded in taste.

A very odd tasting tobacco, Stockton is not so much savoury as salty. I could not decide for some time whether I liked it or not, but eventually concluded that I did not. Still, it has the Mac Baren virtues of being well processed and well presented: someone may like the taste of salt in a pipe.

Stockton generally has been reviewed favorably in these pages. For me, though, it wasn't a bell ringer. The taste is rather non-descript, without anything to make it distinctive. It's not bad in any way, it just doesn't push my buttons.
