Patrick from Blatter and Blatter recommended this blend when I mentioned my liking for Latakia. A rectangular tin with a pipe rest molded in the lid, quite attractive. As I opened it, an exotic smokey aroma hit my nostrils, reminiscent of a middle-eastern desert camp fire.

The cut is very fine and easy to load in any pipe, but such a fine cut leads to the tobacco drying out faster

No troubles lighting and burned with minimal if not any relights. The blend also contains Virgina and Burley, a combination complimenting the main star: Latakia.

After smoking several tins of the blend over the years, I no longer enjoy it. I detect a topping of some sort, which can be distracting. I can see how some would enjoy it, but I personally find that it lacks complexity and depth.

This tobacco was bought as part of a Latakia sampler pack. The tobacco has a pleasant scent (for Latakia lovers), and the blend looks like a good measure of the Syrian queen mixed with bits of Burley and Virginia, all mixed together in a coarse cut. My sample also included a massive part of uncut leaf - but I don't think that is part of the official mixture! No matter, I sliced it up to blend in using a pair of barber's scissors. This is the first blend that I have smoked which I know for sure contains Syrian Latakia, and it takes centre-stage. I hhave to say, I don't really care for it too much. I prefer the more powerful punch of (what I presume is) Cypriot Latakia found in other blends. The Syrian seems to be a sweeter, more 'blunt' kind of taste, that lingers with a soft, sweet aftertaste. It's not bad, but Cypriot seems more to my liking, more smoky, 'meaty', punchy & rich. It's also lighter in vitamin N than what I usually like. The room note is what you would expect, but this Latakia may appeal more to non-Lat lovers as it is a slightly sweeter smell, more mild & not so overpowering. In view of my experience, I am glad that I tried it, but I won't be buying it again. There may be a slight casing, a slight syrup-like taste could be due to the sweeter Latakia & sweet light Virginias involved.

The topping in this blend has a lethal effect on the Syrian Latakia. It would have been better just Virginias and Burley... More natural, more complex... Everything else is perfect (easy smoke and so...)

Nice smell off the tin, pungent and sour. The tin art represents a dark woolen fabric and the tobacco is packed in plastic.

The nuttiness of the Burley is in the forefront accompanied by the Latakia burnt wood flavor. Virginias give it that tangy, cigarette like taste and bitterness. Overall a decent tobacco with a little topping. It burns to a white ash and is best enjoyed if left in a pipe for some hours prior to enjoyment.

I like Lat (Syrian) but I don't particularly like this. I can't tell you why other than the taste is not that good to me. To me it's mostly pepper than anything else and that great smoky wood flavor I love from Syrian Latakia is not there at all. Frankly I think they put too much burley in this blend. There is some kind of casing in this blend also but I can not recognize exactly what it is. I know some folks will like this but to me it's Just a big disappointment. I was expecting so much more from this blend. My taste buds also tell me if this is truly Syrian Latakia it is in very small quantities. Frog Morton, Railroad Station, Even Northwoods have far more Syrian blend from a taste factor than this blend.

Disappointing...really disappointing!

The burley did not add an interesting note to it - contarry to Caledonian 466-.

It also tasted weird...
