Mac Baren Only Tobacco
(1.36)
Only Tobacco is an entirely new blend. Sugar, water and selected Virginia tobaccos form the basis - mixed with burley and a spicy touch of Orient tobacco. The play of colours is dominated by loose cut golden Virginia tobacco and brown burley cuttings. The room note is gentle, with a soft tobacco sweetness. Only Tobacco is designed for the experienced pipe smoker.

When I recieved my sample, some years ago when the blend was newly released, I was impressed with the cut and rich colour of the product.
There was little noticable package aroma other than leafy / tobacco and a hint of sweetness.
The pipe packed very wel, charred easily and lit with the first match and proceeded to slowly burn down without wetness or going out, reaching a fine, dry grey ash at the end.
The blend was very subtle, giving natural Virginia sweetness, hints of exotic oriental tobacco and gentle sweetness from the casing. The room note was natural leafy smoke with hints of sweetness and was very pleasant.
Although not a strong smoke or highly complex, it was enjoyable, relaxing and had enough subtle flavours to keep me puffing. It was memorable enough too, that I still recall the experience.
It is a pity it was discontinued, but clearly the market expected something different from MacBaren than what this provided. It may perhaps have been a little too close to 'Mixture' to justify a change to it.
