The sugary, lightly toasty black cavendish is the lead component. The Virginias offer some tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, vegetation, some sugar and mild floralness. They are supporting players. The cocoa, vanilla, fresh fruits, and light, bitter caramel are the stars, although they don’t totally drown out the tobaccos. The strength is a couple of steps past the mild mark. The taste is a couple of notches short of the medium threshold. Has a light nic-hit. Won’t bite or get harsh, and barely has a rough note. Burns cool, clean and tad slow with a very consistent sweet, mildly sour, floral flavor from start to finish. Has a lingering, mildly bitter after taste, and a pleasant room note. Leaves a fair amount of moisture in the bowl, and requires a couple more than an average number of relights. Can be an all day smoke.

The description compares American Delight to Lane's 1Q. Hmm. I have both tins in front of me and my nose is not finding any similarities. 1Q smells of silky milk chocolate and American Delight gives off a sour soapy smell with some sweetness way in the back row. This is not a bad thing, just a different beast here.
It is as spongy as cake and a tad damp. Grab a good mound of it, because it will take a bit more than usual to fill your bowl.
Time to strike a match and put it to the test... Wow, what a light and mild aromatic. Still no 1Q chocolate taste, but something differently pleasant here. I know the idea of tasting soap seems odd, yet each breath transports you to the back of the store where they sell just that (no Ivory or over-the-top odor, just a light clean taste). I could see why this blend draws a line in the sand with ardent supporters and detractors.
I however liked it. When I was done, my mouth felt weirdly fresh.

It's been a long time since I've smoked Lane 1Q, so I can't really compare the two.
Tin description: Mature, sweet VAs, burleys, and Cavendish. Topped with Vanilla, caramel and fresh fruits.
This description looked so good to me!
The tobacco is very, very soft. It is cut into long, thin ribbons, and the smell is sweet and a little flowery. Because this tobacco is so soft, it can be easy to overpack your pipe.
This tobacco is very gentle. No bite and no goop, which is great for a tobacco that supposedly imitates the cheaper Lane 1Q. Room aroma is pleasant: fruit, caramel and vanilla is what you will get. I don't taste much of anything when I smoke this, so I will classify this as "Extremely Mild (Flat)" in the rating.
This tobacco would probably make a good beginner's tobacco due to it's gentle smoking qualities and pleasant room note. If this tobacco had more taste, I might buy more, but I will instead finish the one tin I have.

"American Aromatics get goopy, European Aromatics get bitter."
There's a truth I had not known. (thanks, I should have read your review sooner.) Dad sent me some of this, since he found it bad. The grumpy farts in the machine shop thought it smelled great. It did, in fact, smell great.
I won't knock this, since it was free, and I smoked it AT WORK. (In Your Face Mr. Man!) But, my oh my, I'd never buy it.
That's not very helpful, is it? As I remember, American Delight is sort of a caramel ice cream kinda thing. (Is that what the Brits really think of us? sheesh!) I like a good aromatic once in a while. So far, I haven't found one.
For reference, the Dad of which I often write, likes McClelland's Baklava in place of this. (That stuff has a room note as nice as a cream covered bean.)

I bought it out of curiosity because it comes from Hoggarth, who I consider one of the top three (if not the best) manufacturers of pipe tobaccos.
It contains Sweet Virginia, Burley and various Cavendish. It has a flavor of caramel with a slight vanilla and of course the foamy taste that almost all Hoggarth smokes have. It is certain it does not bring about any tongue biting, as it gives off an amazing scent in the room.
A pleasant interval from the Orientals I smoke, without reaching the exact opposite of fully aromatic. I will take two more boxes, just to spare. It contains no Latakia, something my friend Peter feared when he smoked it.
P.S. I think it has a slight taste of whiskey, without being absolutely positive about it.

Bought as an experiment. Found this tobacco contained a strong cherry note. Very moist and could perhaps benefit from a larger pipe chamber. Will continue to experiment

Bought this blend in bulk and it came at a good moisture content. Bag note for me has vanilla, chocolate, and something else in the back which I can't quite place, perhaps the fruit topping?
After an easy light I have to say I was disappointed to begin with, I could barely detect anything I expected to taste after such a promising bag note. Pausing and slowing down the smoke, I found about a quarter of the bowl in this blend really opened up. The taste is definitely mild, but has a very pleasant light sweetness. I could taste the chocolate and vanilla, but they don't mask the natural tobacco flavours. Further into the bowl the nuttiness of the burley gave the smoke an almost coconut and chocolate flavour which I found delightful (pardon the pun).
The tobacco kept a great taste to the last 10th I'd say and stayed nice and cool (although I smoked this on a brisk December night on the balcony). Mouth feel was also thick and full something I very much appreciate. At the end I was left with a fine white Ash.
A nice smoke but perhaps not a blend I would rush out and buy again.

This one is quite strange. I've been smoking a pipe regularly for a few years and have sampled a decent variety of aromatics, English blends, VaPers and straight Virginias. This is the first tobacco that I immediately disliked on the first bowl.
It has a very nice smell in the tin, vanilla and some fruit is what I pick up. But virtually no flavor, at least at first. And I definitely pick up a weird mouth feel -- I can see what people mean when they describe a "soapy taste" in Lakeland/Gawith Hoggarth blends.
BUT -- it's grown on me. Its a very smooth smoke. And if you sip and give it time, I pick up chocolate (not vanilla so much) and berry notes. And it is very clearly a high quality tobacco. Great smoke output and very smooth. And I don't mind the "soapy" mouth feel -- it's almost like the smoke is a little chewy.
Still not my favorite, but I will go through the two tins as an occasional smoke. Probably won't buy more.

This isn't bad. It is also not that exciting. To me, it's a wonderful backup for something else. It would probably be the crown jewel of a mass production, gas station line of cheap pipe tobaccos, but it's not. It's marketed as something an American would take delight it, which may be true, depending on taste and interpretation, but I'd recommend this blend to be placed between two blends you really enjoy, if only to enhance your love of those.

Mostly scentless and without taste. Not much smoke and didn't leave a noticeable scent in the room afterwards. I prefer something I can taste and more aromatic. So this was definitely not for me. But if you're in the market for something tasteless that you won't remember was in the room 10 minutes from now this it.
