Paul Olsen No. 7000
(3.21)
Based on a blend over 103 years old, #7000 contains a very generous portion of top quality latakia with some of the finest Orientals. Then finished off with a black cavendish and Turkish Samsun for a full-bodied traditional English.

My sample of this came from the sample bin at my local pipe club. Out of the can it was somewhat too humid for me and produced a very steamy smoke. After I dried it a little, it became a very good middle of the road English mixture that would certainly satisfy me most of the time. There is nothing to really set this blend apart from the crowd, though there is nothing wrong with it either. It is not as strong in latakia as Penzance or Raven's Wing and not as complex as Renaissance or Margate.
ADDENDUM
After quite a few more smokes I now recognize a subtle difference in this blend over most English blends, possibly due to the Samsun oriental tobacco. This is the first blend I have tried that I knew had Samsun in it. This is an interesting twist on the English theme and may be worth trying to get something a little different.
Also, I had previously wrongly commented on the unavailability of this tobacco except from Europe. I now see this available on several of the tobacco websites.

Very nicely blended tobacco. Alls the flavors come through. Another one for the Latakia lovers.
