This is my second KBV blend to try. Almost a shag cut, behaves pretty well. The Virginia's sit behind the smoky barbecue of the Kentucky and the spice of the Orientals. More sour than sweet, but in a good way. A nice surprise.

Mycroft
(bulk)
Blend notes: “Dark Virginia, Samsun, Izmir, and an exotic Kentucky varietal make for a deeply engaging blend. Originally based on a blend from Liverpool England, Mycroft made the crossing and has been adapting since. Straight tobaccos with no added fragrance.”
Mycroft is a medium strength combination of Orientals, Virginia and Dark-Fired Kentucky. The Orientals seem to take the lead — sour notes, some spice, a bit of dry earthy almost loamy taste. The Kentucky adds some mild Kentucky-esque smoke — some people get BBQ, I don’t, but I always appreciate KY in a blend. The Virginia seems to take the back seat with very mild dark fruit and just a hint of bread.
At times I wonder what I am talking about. Trying to come up with words to dissect the flavor profile of a blend of pipe tobacco. Writing reviews is a privilege and at times scary.
It’s an interesting blend but not outstanding. Mycroft is an easy, pleasant smoke. I appreciate the Samsun and Izmir and enjoy that sour, spicy flavor profile, and always enjoy KY. I suspect the Virginia was used to fill out and bring balance.
3 out of 4 stars.
