Cornell & Diehl Folklore

(3.15)
From package: Our story begins with a blend of five distinct flue-cured varietals, ranging from specially processed Red and Orange leaf, to matured, dark Mahoganys and vintage Canadian Brights. Delicate accompaniments of genuine St. James Perique, light smoked Kentuckey, and exotic Kasturi leaf combine to create a rich and elegant flavor with notes of sweet fruit, citrus, warming spices, and woodsy undertones. Each 16oz crumble cake comes packaged in a vacuum-sealed bag nestled within a custom-designed gift box. Further elevating its elegant presentation, each brick also includes a reusable vinyl sticker that you can use to label your glass Mason jars.
Notes: 2023 version only 3000 released: Folklore celebrates five distinct flue-cured varietals: deep Mahogany Reds from 2017, lighter Orange-Red leaf from 2019, lemony 2019 Canadian Brights, and a special selection of 2022 North Carolina tips — a beautifully rich, 13.53 percent sugar-content leaf with exceptional body and character. These top-tier, naturally sweet Virginias are elevated by delicate accompaniments of pure, genuine St. James Parish Perique from Cornell & Diehl's exclusive Perique farm, 31 Farms; lightly smoke-cured Kentucky from 2019; and exotic Indonesian Kasturi leaf from 2015. Pressed and sliced into a 16oz crumble cake, the result is an alluring, fascinating blend unique in its presentation and rich in flavor, offering notes of sweet fruit, citrus, warming spices, and woodsy undertones. 2022 Version only 1000 released: Folklore — celebrates five distinct flue-cured varietals: Orange-Red leaf from 2019, Canadian Brights from 2017, darker Mahogany leaf from 2017, and perhaps most special, 2020 North Carolina tips — the same 13.53 percent sugar-content leaf C&D used in Carolina Red Flake with Perique. These top-tier, naturally sweet Virginias are elevated by delicate accompaniments of genuine St. James Parish Perique, lightly smoke-cured Kentucky, and exotic Kasturi leaf from 2015. Keeping it simple, C&D Folklore is earthy and presents notes that mostly favor figs and woodsmoke. In the cake, it smells very fruity and good enough to eat, but the smoke is quite different and more earthy. It leaves behind a fig or plum aftertaste.

It is very wet and activates salivation very early on. Depending on your tolerance, it may not be for an empty stomach. (Some may prefer it that way.)

My last sample of pipe tobacco mailed to me by a friend to review. I don’t have much to say on this one. I had a nice size cube of Krumble Kake, really pleasant sweet smell that made me wonder if a casing was applied. By the way, this is the 2023 version. Had a nice spiciness to the smoke but didn’t wow me very much in the flavor profile. Just read the description on this site and I guess the St. James Perique explains the spiciness to the smoke. I also read and did not know that C&D had a Perique Farm, “genuine St. James Parish Perique from Cornell & Diehl's exclusive Perique farm, 31 Farms” from the descriptor. Who am I kidding? I have 64-year-old taste buds and likewise sense of smell. Why mention this? Because sometimes feel I am not giving the blend its due justice. My reality is I would rate this 2 star because I did not taste the blend of five distinct flue-cured varietals, etc. My review days may be coming to an end sooner rather than later. Sorry for the negativity but I don’t want to be blowing smoke rings around anyone if I can’t feel I am giving valid reviews. I would try it.
