The red and dark Virginias provide a burst of tangy ripe dark fruit, earth, wood, bread, sugar, mild tart and tangy citrus, light grass, a few floral notes, and pinches of spice and vinegar. They take a small lead. The dark fired Kentucky offers smoke, wood, earth, floralness, herbs, nuts, barbecue, and a fair mount of spice as a strong, often competitive supporting player. The aspects of the very spicy perique include earth, wood, raisins, plenty of plum, and light dates. It sits in the third position, and competes with the Kentucky for attention. There is a small touch of smoky, woody, earthy, wine-like, musty Syrian Latakia present. There's a dash of rich rum that doesn't tone down the tobaccos much. The strength and nic-hit are medium. The taste is a step past that mark. Won't bite or get harsh, but sports few very small rough edges. Well balanced, it burns cool and clean with a richly consistent sweet and savory, spicy flavor that extends to the pleasantly lingering after taste. The room note is a tad stronger. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Not an all day smoke, but it is repeatable. Three and a half stars out of four.
