Founded in 1962 by Jesuit missionaries, it is the social, religious, civil and military center of the entire Yaqui tribe by law and tradition, seat of the command staff of the governors, captains of their militia, and Catholic patron saints of the eight traditional villages.
Since 1936, it has been the first head of the towns of Tórim, Loma de Bácum and Bataconcica, Loma de Guamúchil-Guardia, Tajimaroa and the Nuevo town of Cócorit. In 1872 it was one of the eight autonomous towns during the leadership of Jose Maria Leyva "Cajeme".
“El Conti”, is a huge esplanade of religious use to celebrate the Judeo-Christian Lent, Holy Week, Saint John's Day and other celebrations.
