Summary: rich smoky flavor with an inner sweetness enwrapping the almond flavors of Burley.
Fire curing began long before tobacco, serving our ancestors to preserve meat and fish. It allows you to take a raw material from nature and both preserve it and impart the gentle flavor of fire, which signals to our brains that it is safe to consume. Sutliff "TS12 Dark Fired Cured" mixes a few different Burleys and smokes them quickly, then adds moisture and a light anisette flavor as a casing in order to set the curing. It smokes with a faint Burley vegetal bitterness in the background, but mostly the nutty flavor of Burley which to me resembles mixed grains and flowers, and a faint sweetness at the core independent of the casing. This is a great blend to use in your mixtures, but is also entirely enjoyable as a smoke on its own, although I tend to mix it with a little white Burley and some red and bright Virginia for maximum effect.

I purchased this blend in a perhaps foolhardy attempt to find a less expensive alternative to my favorite blend of all time, Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Kentucky... an OUTSTANDING blend that, so far, has no equal in my book.
PLEASE, educate me as I am not an expert on tobaccos. I would love to receive advice from the more experienced and nuanced on this site.
Well, a replacement it is perhaps not, but a new favorite it will likely become.
I have thus far been pleased with most of the Sutliff tobaccos I have sampled...
As has been prior commented upon, this blend comes a bit too wet for my tastes, but dried nicely in a short period of time. I also had to relight it several times to get it going, but once well-lit it was an outstanding smoke.
The dark-fired flavour really declared itself about half way through the bowl, with no bite whatsoever.
I will definitely add this blend to my daily rotation. It is about $25 dollars cheaper than G, H, & Co. Kendall Kentucky per pound, and decidedly worth every penny.
