Smoked this a lot in my college days. It’s been decades since I lit up a bowl. The appearance is the same but the pouch aroma is much more subtle than I remember. The taste is also more subdued... not as sweet. I was torn between recommending and somewhat recommending. It’s an easy all day smoke, but you won’t find the same words as you do with the Rattray and Dunhill blends sneaking into these reviews. It’s worth a try...give it a spin with a morning cup or after your morning meal. I’ll grab it on occasion.

Sail Yellow -STG version. I smoked alot of this when Royal Theodorus Niemeyer produced it. I smoked this, the natural and the green and I bought it by the tin which was a good size and came nicely sealed with a tie wrap. Then just like Amphora it was gone here in the states. Some time later, Orlick took over and it just wasn't the same. This is pretty close to the original version, a light, spicy burley virginia mix with some oriental sprinkled in somewhere. If you like Dutch blends and the Cavendish processed type tobacco's this could be for you. Comes moist in the pouch so some drying time is needed. If it's to dry it will torch you. I'll be generous and give it three stars for the effort.

Upon opening the pouch, I smelled faint bread, and even fainter banana. The tobacco was packed tightly together and I had to crumble it apart with my fingers. Not sure if it is a broken flake or just seemed that way because it was so tightly packed in the pouch. I allowed the tobacco to dry for an hour. Packed a Dr. Grabow Grand Duke. Charring light and tamp. Waited for bowl to cool. Relit the tobacco. Lots of spice in my mouth, but subdued in the retro hale. Similar to a cigar I had in the past that I was told would be similar to graham craker...nope...just black pepper. That was until about halfway down. I started to get a peppry note in my throat and in the retrohale; however, this tobacco really shines towards the bottom of the bowl. The pepper is there, but it is more like a ginger tingle than black pepper and wonderful creaminess sets in. There's almost an extremely faint fruit flavor, but not one in particular stands out. All-in-all a bowl of Sail Regular takes you on a journey that starts off like riding in a covered wagon and ends up turning into a 70s Corvette (if you get it...good. If not, 70s Vettes aren't great rides...but who cares). No bite. Burns to a nice white/grey ash. Little dottle.

Sail Yellow or Regular is a pretty ok smoke. The broken flakes either need to be rubbed out or allowed to dry. Doesn't really do much for me.

Bought this after I read up on it here. I had seen it in a shop, and was curious.

Smells sweet in the pouch. Well rubbed flake that's ready to go straight away. It has a sweetness to it on the light and takes a bit to get going. Could be from a mild mystery topping. It smokes well and needs a few relights along the way. Good Virginia taste to it, but subdued with nuts and sweet bread. Light on the citrus for me and more toward the grass. The orientals are present and give a odd complexity that gives you something to think about here and there.

It is very good as it is. And to be completely honest, it delivers a lot more than you would expect from a pouch of tobacco costing less than ten bucks. It reminds me of macbaren mixture without the bite. Not as nuanced though. A good deal simpler in fact. Easily an all day smoke that will satisfy more seasoned smokers.

This is Sails medium flavor option. It has a definite tobacco flavor. The Virginias are most prominent. There is a bit of sweetness, and a flavor that reminds me of autumn...maybe burning leaves, but in a good way. It is a very outdoorsy blend. It can bite a bit, and could be rubbed out a little, but it is pretty good for an OTC. The flavoring added is not as pronounced as it is with Sail Green. This is not an aromatic. This is a good, reliable blend that wont break the bank...

This is very similar to Sail Ivory Label. It is very mild and has a subtle natural taste - just a bit more flavor than Skandinovik. I couldn't detect any topping or casing. It can bite if smoked carelessly but it smokes fairly cool & dry. It would make a good mixture to smoke all day.

I found myself liking this blend a lot more than I had anticipated. It has a basic sweet tobacco taste, with a little spice from the Orientals. The ribbons are cut VERY long, and I do find bits of flakes in the pouch occasionally. The only obvious downside to this blend is perhaps the ribbons are a little too long, making packing a little difficult.

A no-bite and pleasant smoke all around.

This smelled nice in the pouch and that's about it. Way too light for my tastes. Smoked dry and had a good volume of smoke, but there wasn't much substance behind it. Time for this ship to sail into the abyss of vapid tobaccos.

Smoke in peace.

Just got a free sample of this, and was really looking forward to seeing if it was as good as I remembered from back in the seventies. It wasn't. Nothing to write home about here. I won't be buying any, and I'm not sure that I'll even smoke another pipe of it.
