Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Revor Plug

A fabulous tasting tobacco that is the best plug I have tried and so easy to prepare.Not strong to me being a seasoned piper and I am off to the Pool tomorrow to buy a couple more packs.Cheap stuff too.Possibly the finest tasting baccy of all time and I have tasted loads.

This is a plug that I can crumble with my fingers, which makes it way more portable and easier to deal with than Peterson's Perfect Plug. Like most plugs, lacking moisture, it burns evenly and consistently. A very dry smoke, but cool enough that I've never been bitten despite a wet summer's worth of trying.

The four stars come from: 1: ease of burn 2: lightly floral smell and aftertaste 3: more than enough nicotine to make me a little unbalanced after a medium bowl 4: it is different enough from my usual 'English' blends and latakias that I feel like I always need to have something like this around.

It is just a really nice smoke, the sort that I can enjoy 'after hours', when everyone is asleep and there are no calls on my time; just me, my pipe and the promise of bed shortly thereafter.

I'm in love! I would do cartwheels if I were physically able to do so! This stuff it great! This is another I was fortunate enough to recieve in a trade from a forum brother on SmokersForums and I don't know whether to be happy or sad. This is so good and so hard to get if at all in the US. But to be able to experience it right now is sublime! This comes in a pouch containing a long rectangular block of very dark, pressed from large flakes non oily tobacco. It has the aroma of 1792 flake and to be honest, it reminds me of a much richer version of 1792 and also reminds me vey much of Irish XX Rope. I like both but this blend seems to combine those two in a perfect combination. It is hard in the block but easy to pel off strips and I let mine set out to dry for a little while. I then rubbed up up and leaded in a Pete 302 Pete System pipe. Once I first lit the pipe, well actually several times as it's hard to light, I was in shere bliss. This blend is sweet as can be, no artificial sweetness either. It has along with the sweetness a kind of sweet and sour tartness I like a lot. The smoke is thick and creamy and it kinda clings to your pallette and facial hair. With the cup of French roast coffee I drank while smoking it, well it just made life perfect for awhile. It does require relights a few times as it burns very slow, and it burns down to a dark grey ash and very little dottle in the bottom of the pipe. This tobacco is so rich and full it's almost like eating a meal of it. This has to be the best of the best from the UK. I highly recommend it and I know would be my regular blend if it were available to me in the US. Did I say I was in love!?

Can you say delicious? I knew you could.

A nicely crafted jet-black stick of dark Virginia. Easy to shave into shag with a sharp knife. A wee bit of drying time, a light fill, two vestas, your steel belted panty hose and you're off to the races.

Strong stuff. I don't advise smoking this in the morning after a few cups of coffee and a bran muffin if there is any chance you're going to get stuck in traffic. This is wonderful tobacco, but it does carry an *SPF 5,000 rating.

This is a wonderful plug by G&H. It is perhaps the coolest tobac I have ever smoked, which can get you in trouble if smoked too fast as it has a good dose of nico. It is my quess that this is a virginia base with oriental and maybe some latakia and kentucky. I get a chocolate note in the background along with a very slight hint of pine?, but, as I am no expert in these matters this should be taken with a grain of salt. No one on earth can do ropes, flakes and plugs like the Brits, lets hope these tobac Masters will be plying their trade for a long time to come.

Packet note is dark chocolate, molasses, moist broken earth, black bark, dark liquorice. The kind of dark chocolate essence that’s so dark it absorbs all around it.

If you were to visit a forest on a wet day following a bush fire and took a handful of earth, you’d be holding rubbed Revor Plug. It resembles blackened, sodden, crumbled tree bark. It cuts and rubs effortlessly, but it needs a good few hours to dry and rest.

So much darkness. It’s the first tobacco which, on the retrohale, doesn’t really kick or peak, it just deepens and broods. Revor is pure 100% dark chocolate without ever becoming overpowering or bitter. That’s not to say it’s not singularly complex. You get earth, nuts, molasses and dark wood, you just don’t get anything else. If you could strip Condor of it's complex casings you'd have something similar but brighter. If you've had an Asylum 13 cigar, it’s that.

I got myself in trouble with Revor the same way I do with a dark chocolate. I eat continuously hunting for any top notes to cut through the abyss; salt, sweetness, spice. Without realising it I’ve eaten the whole bar and I’ve got a headache, craving a sugar cube or a salt lick. I’m used to strong tobaccos, but this is a monster and the first pipe tobacco which has left me spinning and reaching for the ginger ale. This however may be down to my impatience. This smokes exceptionally cool and full. You’ll die from the nicotine before it bites you.

Sadly I don’t think I’d buy it again. For my tastes it’s only 80% complete in the same way that I consider pure dark chocolate, dark stouts or dark meats incomplete since the purest examples lack those top notes to balance them. Some of my favourite tobaccos are dark but typically with the salt and spice of malawi and indian to cut through. This is for true dark lovers who can chew cacao nibs laced with meth amphetamine and not only survive but feel a deep sense of satisfaction.

I rate this tobacco highly even though I know I’m too uncultured to really appreciate it. Despite nearly ending myself with it, I was pleased to see that right at the very moment I knew I’d gone too far, the entire bowl had burnt to fine ash and had smoked to the bottom. As a smoking fuel it has performed better than any tobacco I’ve ever smoked. It does ask that you relight it frequently but to my mind, a great tobacco will go into standby when neglected yet relight effortlessly.

If you’re about dark chocolate then this is it. I’m personally going to mix this with Condor.

This is such a satisfying smoke. Lovely creamy heavy smoke. I cut it in half..then cut long ways and it falls apart into luxurious pieces that burn slow and perfectly after half a hour drying. There are no negatives here.decent nicotine.long burning.has a smokey room note. Goes very well with a scotch. A comforting smoke

Wonderful sweetened and scented tobacco. It comes in a plug which is easy to cut with a knife or even peel just using your fingers. It might benefit from a little drying time, but generally it does not produce much moisture and does not need many relights. Burns slow and cool.

Now to the actual smoking experience, it is smoky as the dark fired Kentucky is dominant and fairly sweet. Difficult to describe but it tastes sweet like maple syrup and molasses, probably a touch of licorice as well, with a walnut nuttiness and its smokiness is a little reminiscent of ground coffee. It is a strong tobacco but not overwhelmingly so and the mouthfeel is very rounded, it’s never harsh or sharp. Some reviewers have noted a floral Lakeland quality, I wouldn’t say so. It has an old-time feel but I sense no florality.

Difficult to imagine using Revor for repeated use but it’s an excellent tobacco when something stronger and sweeter is needed.

One long, jet black, bar of tobacco. To prepare this I slice a few slithers and then they crumble easily.

Although it goes against the grain of what I normally smoke, I like it! There's a light topping, Lakeland, but it doesn't smother the tobaccos with floral-fragrance. Of the two tobaccos I find the Kentucky the heavier, and the Virginia much lighter. Although the Kent' leads, it doesn't seem very bitter, burnt, or harsh, it's quite smooth for Kentucky. The burn from it's cool, and medium in speed; well, that's dependant on preparation!

Nicotine: very strong. Room-note: not pleasant.

As I usually despise preparing plug blends, and don't particularly enjoy strong Kentucky blends, it's a surprise that I want to highly recommend this!
