Ken Byron Ventures Jupiter Slices
(3.27)
Named for the color and streaking which reminded me of ‘A Darker Shade of Jupiter’. Destemmed red Virginia pressed into a plug format. No top notes or intrusive casings are applied. Some people prefer to age their plugs. Some people dip theirs in Rum. Some people enjoy them as-is. There is no wrong way to enjoy Jupiter Slices.

This blend is good if you can keep it lit. As many others have noted, this tobacco simply will not dry. I had three bowls worth of this tobacco rubbed out and sitting in a ziplock bag for a year and it was still moist. There is a saving grace though, if you use a tall, narrow chambered pipe, by the halfway point, you can keep this tobacco lit. A fair amount of work for what is supposed to be an enjoyable and relaxing hobby.
On another note, once you do get this blend going, it welcomes you with everything you can hope for in a predominantly Red Virginia blend. The nicotine content to me, is between mild and medium and there is no chance of bite; but, because you have to work at keeping it lit, you will tingle your palate and tongue. I would give this blend 3 Stars if KBV could make it less flame retardant.

I'm not sure why so many problems keeping this tobacco lit. I had no problems. I cube-cut slices off the plug. Dried the tobacco for twenty minutes...was still a bit moist. lit right up. re-lit several times.
My problem was the flavor was really muted. Bread notes were there. But faint. Slight ginger bread. Not tangy at all. Very slight citrus. Not a terrible smoke. Was a rather flat smoke. Will see what age does to this tobacco. Not in the same class as Wessex Red Virginia Flake.I have smoked three bowls.
