Cornell & Diehl Warped: Kings Stride
(3.85)
Notes: Rich... Regal Louisiana perique commands attention as deep, complex notes of dark fruit and chocolate envelop the palate.
Poised... With balance and grace, the flavors of fine Virginia leaf and alluring, matured burley enhance the perique's lavish character.
Elegant... A sumptuous selection of cigar leaf, pressed and steamed into an exquisite cavendish, bestows unsurpassed delicacy and mystique.
Known for their boutique, Cuban style cigars, Warped is curated and supervised by founder Kyle Gellis, an entrepreneur and lover of all things bespoke and luxurious. He has a taste for finery and approaches his ventures with rigorous standards of perfection that are applied to the slightest of subtleties. Such a mindset translated naturally when Warped expanded into pipe tobaccos in 2019, seeing Kyle Gellis collaborate with Cornell & Diehl's Jeremy Reeves to create nuanced blends, marked by quality components and intriguing flavor profiles that align with Warped's "be exclusively different" mantra.
Joining Warped's selection of pipe tobaccos, Gellis and Reeves present Warped's Kings Stride as a regular production mixture. The blend's moniker is taken from one of Kyle's high-end wines, with matching logo. Like the Cabernet Sauvignon, Kings Stride pipe tobacco is rich, poised, and elegant — a crumble cake boasting a combination of Louisiana perique, five year aged burley, and a unique cavendish comprised of pressed and steamed cigar leaf, for a natural profile that's free of added flavor to showcase the quality tobaccos' inherent notes.

Yup, it tastes like a cigar. In every single puff. But I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Interestingly, it seems to have increased in strength quite a bit since I lit up, more than most. When I first lit my pipe, I noticed a lot of bready flavors. Yeah, it had all the standard fruity stuff from the perique, and that's fine and excellent. But in the very beginning it seemed extremely mellow, and I was worried. But then the flavors got deeper and deeper, and honestly it does not seem like the same tobacco I started out with. Smooth and buttery, like macanudos used to be. It's a really nice change of pace. It's nice to know that good non aromatic pipe tobacco can go in a very different direction. I have a lot of tobaccos with cigar leaf in them, but this is definitely the most cigary one yet. But if you change your mind and decide that you want to taste pipe tobacco instead, you can easily find the Burley. This is very good. It's definitely not an everyday blend for me. I can see myself smoking this while I'm working on something in my shop. I think I would appreciate the cigar quite a bit then. I purchased four cans because I read incredible reviews. But for me it's a 3-star blend. I could never love this as much as a perfectly balanced English, or a true va-per. So I imagine I'll finish my open can as summer winds down, and I'll cellar the other three. I'll bet this ages magnificently.

Really nice. Dark, rich and delicious… the cigar cavendish is very satisfying if you like that strong tobacco taste. Rich chocolate taste and absolutely deliciousness, figgy Perique. Bought a few more (twice).

Cornell & Diehl's Warped series features tobaccos where cigar leaf is a dominant ingredient. In this particular blend, the cigar leaf is pressed into cavendish and provides the body of the blend. It makes for a readily smokable leaf even to those (such as myself) who typically find cigars overly pungent and strident. Make no mistake, however: the cigar taste is there, complimented by a masterful medley of more traditional pipe tobaccos that make for an absolutely wonderful experience.
The tin notes hit with a natural nuttiness and hints of dark chocolate. The crumble cake comes in one cake and peels apart tenderly and with ease. The moisture levels are just right, and the tobacco itself rubs out with practically no effort.
The smoke is full-bodied throughout but never overwhelming, and smokes coolly. The first third of the bowl starts with tastes of dark chocolate, with the natural nuttiness of the Burleys teasing throughout. The Virginias add brightness and complexity, balancing out the more earthy tones of the cigar and Burley. Whispers of Perique tease with every draw, but never upstage the other ingredients. Every player has a role to play, and do so harmoniously.
This tobacco lives up to its regal name and has quickly become a favorite. I think this is a rare blend that can not only win over those who are not typically into cigar blends, but also please those that are. This is top shelf tobacco blended by people who know exactly what they are doing. Long live the king!
