Watch City Cigar Rouxgaroux

(3.54)
The Rouxgaroux! The Cajun Werewolf. It prowls the sugar cane fields outside New Orleans looking for it's next victim. Watch City's "Rouxgaroux" is based upon a bed of our "Simply Red" and a matured red Virginia. Rouxgaroux is an indulgent melange of flavors of stewed fig and plum. spiced with a generous amount of perique along with some stoved Virginia and a bit of bright Virginia for a unique floral note that drifts in and out through the bowl.
Notes: Co-created by Ernie Q and JimInks. Blended at Watch City by Ernie.

Rouxgaroux is a VERY mild VaPer. Blend notes often ‘wax poetic’ without actually, you know, saying anything. I don’t get any ‘indulgence’ in the flavor profile. There is a bit of floral Virginia leaf and some so-so Perique; I can’t imagine, for the life of me, how one will get ‘spiced with a generous amount.’

The strength is mild. I understand Jim Amash (Jiminks on Tobacco Reviews) participated with Watch City’s Ernie Q. in the development of the blend, and then also added his own review on TR. As I often mention, everyone has their own palate, and their own opinion. In my view, this is not a medium blend in either nic-hit or flavor.

I would recommend this blend to anyone who was just starting out with a Virginia/Perique style blend, or to anyone who wanted a very, very low-key version of the oft-popular VaPer. Some mild casing is present, no toppings. For the experienced pipe smoker I don’t believe there is much here to warrant a high rating for Rougaroux.

A blend that really made me fall in love with VaPers.

I normally smoke burley blends, English/Balkans, and some subtle aromatics.

The few VaPers I’ve enjoyed were very deep and rich like The Red Hunt from Warped. I tend not to have the patience for straight Virginias.

Man. This blend is just easy and delicious. Tonight I cracked open a jar of this from 2022 and it was just effortlessly delicious. Tangy, rich, nicely spicy and full of dark fruit, and Jim said - you can push this one surprisingly hard with not a whole lot of consequences. I’ve been trying to smoke more slowly and mindfully, but for a few minutes a few times over the course of an hour this was so delicious I was smoking a bit faster than I should have. Still it remained delicious and didn’t bite at all.

Watch City makes some killer blends and this is among them. Absolutely love it.
