The fragrant, pungent, smoky, rugged Orientals provide earth, wood, herbs, vegetation, plenty of spice and floralness, a fair amount of sourness, and a light buttery sweetness as the lead component. The smoky, woody, earthy, wine-like, musty Syrian Latakia also has a mild floral incense quality as a supporting player. The Virginias offer some tangy dark fruit, earth, wood, tart and tangy citrus, some bread and sugar, mild grass and vegetation, a little floralness, and a small spice note in a secondary role. The unsweetened black cavendish chips in with a light sugariness. I sense a light fruity topping, though I can’t define what it is. The strength and nic-hit are a step past the medium mark. The taste is just past the center of medium to full. It won’t bite, but the tingly spice content is high enough that I recommend a slow puffing cadence. Sports a few rough edges, but no harshness. Burns clean and a tad warm at a moderate pace with a very consistent sweet and sour, spicy, floral, savory, campfire flavor that translates the pleasantly long lingering after taste. Has a tolerable room note. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Not an all day smoke.
