I’m back home with my Dr. Grabow Freehand enjoying yet another taste sampling of Campbell’s Smoke Shop #14 Kentucky Rough-Cut, a true American style Burley blend for sure. This is one of their mysterious house mixtures that I absconded with a few weeks back. Of course, they would not divulge the contents of its recipe, other than Burley.
Originating as a savory cake, #14 is a knotty manicured concoction that embodies an excess of rich brown rough-cut and cubic Kentucky Burley; heavier White varietal as I have surmised. Additionally, a definite light chocolate topping floats up from the Burley fragranced pouch finishing the registration. I’m thinking that the base taste profile is similar to Stokkebye’s Cube Cut overall but it with a little zestier enunciation from the Dark strain.
Namely the palate meets that deliciously toasty nutty Burley essence, enhanced by complementing accents of passive baked sugar, chocolate, gentle earthy spice, and punchy sourness. Very nice. However, I am also sensing minor elements that are reminiscent of sweetened Cavendish, fruity Perique, and just a touch dark Virginia working stealthily on the internals. The rising aroma floats gracefully in as a primary trickle of warm sweet, buttery nuttiness afforded by #14’s thick smoky plume. If you are a true American Burley zealot, I suggest that you give this one a go. I personally like it myself so far; very enjoyable indeed.
