Peter Stokkebye Tivoli Mild Cavendish
(2.00)
Notes: Per Jon Guss: Larus & Brother imported Royal Tivoli, starting about 1964. Apparently the blend was older since the trademark filing date was 1960. Although the holder of the trademark was Poul Petersen, suggesting a possible link with A&C Petersen, other information lists the [Tivoli] blends as being produced by Erik Stokkebye.

The nutty, earthy, woody, lightly molasses sweet burley takes a lead over the grassy, citrusy, lightly honey-ish Virginia. Not sure where the light spice note comes from. The tobaccos were processed in the cavendish style, pressed into plugs, and then sliced into ready rubbed form. The topping appears to be chocolate, though time has faded some of it from existence. I also detect a hint of caramel. The toppings tone down the tobaccos just a mite, though they likely did more than that when fresh. The strength barely passes the mild mark, while the taste level is a step past that. The nic-hit is mild. Tingles the tongue if you don’t sip it. Has a slight rough edge. Burns slightly warm, clean, and a tad slow with a very consistent, mildly sweet and lightly savory flavor from top to bottom. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires just a little more than an average number of relights. Has a pleasant, short lived after taste and room note. An all day smoke. I’d rate this a three if not for the bite potential.
