HU Tobacco Manyara

(3.50)
Manyara - is a medium strength, yet full-bodied blend. Fire cured Virginias, bold burley, plenty of Louisiana perique, dark fired Kentucky as ready rubbed flake and ribbon cut, [plus] Orientals, as well as a touch of Brazil and a hint of latakia. This impressive ingredient list guarantees a complex taste, which varies between woodsy, spicy, leathery sweet, earthy, chocolaty and ethereal notes. The Manyara proves that Kentucky mixtures don't have to be monochromatic, and nor overly strong. A blend for friends of spicy, natural mixtures that also look for a nuanced taste.
Notes: Released at Lohmar Pipe Show 2018.

The nutty, earthy, woody, lightly molasses sweet burley is the lead component with the cocoa/chocolate being the most conspicuous aspect. The fire-cured Virginias offer wood, earth, a little citrus, spice and grass, as well as a bit of dark fruit with a touch of fermentation as a supporting player. The very raisiny, plummy, spicy Louisiana perique also plays a support role. The woody, earthy, spicy, rather dry, mildly floral and nutty dark fired Kentucky is an obvious condiment. The same can be said to a lesser extent for the floral, woody, earthy, dry, slightly sweet Oriental. The smoky, woody, leathery Cyprian latakia is just noticeable, and I can’t say I really observe the Brazil to any degree. The strength level just reaches medium, while the taste is a little stronger. The nic-hit is a step or so past the center of mild to medium. No chance or bite or harshness, Burns cool and clean, and a slightly slow as some ready rubbed flake is in the mix with the ribbon cut. Has a complex, nuanced, sweet and lightly savory flavor all the way to the end. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, but does need a little more than an average number of relights. Has a pleasant, slightly lingering after taste. Can be an all day smoke for the veteran, and it’s certainly repeatable to varying extents during your smoking day. Three and a half stars out of four.

Tin note is very earthy sweet with spicy fruit notes. The cut looks like fine ribbon with cubes of burley and larger ribbons but small in length. Packs very easily. moisture content is fine. This may be one of the most complex blends I have smoked. They could have called it kitchen sink. I would need to smoke much more than I have to begin to pick out all the flavors but they are are there. The earthy burley is in the lead but only slightly . The Brazilian Leaf, Kentucky, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish, Perique, Virginia are all noticeable. Its defiantly a great blend but best smoked when contemplating the smoke and not distracted. A light cadence is helpful to receive the best of the flavors. Becomes much more consistent at the 1/2 way point. The flavors are medium in strength, and they seem to fluctuate quite a bit. There does not seem to be any additional toppings or casings. The nic hit is mild to medium. Not sure I could smoke this all day as I would be thinking about all the different flavors. But its is certainly pleasant on occasion 3.5 stars.
