Holger Danske Black & Bourbon

(2.72)
The greater part of this blend is double fermented Black Cavendish made out of bright Virginia tobaccos. The blend is balanced with Ready Rubbed Burley which provides a slow and cool smoke. The taste is a match between the tobacco and the special bourbon whiskey flavor that has been carefully added.
Notes: Previously blended in Germany by Planta. Currently blended in Denmark by Mac Baren. Due to EU regulations, this is renamed and sold in those countries as "Black & B.

Very easy to smoke and to clean pipe, fast burning tabacco and never hot. Taste is steady and light. However not enjoyable. This tabacco bored after couple days.

Holy crunch balls does this weed give off the vapors. Pull off the paper separator, and you find a plastic bag of seriously stewed nuclear flavored ribbons (I didn't find many ready rubbed chunks) that had to be cherry. Then I thought about it for a second, and yeah, if I dumped a glass of bourbon over some tobacco, it would probably have the same tangy, sweet, dour, stink this stuff has. So shame on me for assuming every pungent Aromatic is cherry.

One peculiar thing was it's color. It had a greyish hue similar to pictures of people wondering, "is this mold or plume?". I don't believe it was either, so just a visual side note. The first few puffs were confusing. I was expecting (cherry still) and some deep caramel finish found in whisky blends, instead I just got this hot air with a general alcohol steam, and not much flavor of any kind to be honest. It was almost as if it was topped with a cooking extract made mostly of alcohol and the fire immediately burned off whatever was added to taste.

Smoking this really reminded me of the one time I tried vaping. It just didn't work for me in the least. **Note: I rated the flavoring as strong only because it stinks in the tin, even though it is less than mild once smoked.

Smells great in the tin. Fresh out of the tin this will bite, puff carefully.

Aged for 8 months and it smoothed out. Tastes of bottom shelf Canadian whiskey and slight citrus.

Overall 1.5 stars.

Just barley than a OTC drugstore blend.

I have recently purchased Holger Danske - Black & Bourbon. As a new pipe smoker, I am in a process of tracking tobacco which suits my flavoring preferences. Among some types purchased, I felt great disappointment smoking this. as it reminded me that I was smoking chemicals instead of a nice aromatic tobacco. Strong tongue bite couldn't assist me in to track the actual flavor of the tobacco. As a new pipe smoker, it might be difficult yet to express an actual opinion/review for a tobacco however I would not recommend this one as a beginning.

A new, flower-like Japanese acquaintance has recently introduced me to Jim Bean Bourbon, which I like to smoke, er, drink along with some medium+ Virginia flake, say Rattray's Marlin flake. If you do it often enough, some of the bourbon breath might actually rub off on your pipe, if you always use the same one. The combination of Bourbon & Virginia is indeed made in heaven.

Enjoy it that way, and forget this artificially-wrought cased cav.

This tobacco is not worth your time. Pouch note is sweetish, but none bourbon flavouring detected. It lights up really hard and it burns unevenly. Can bite when pushed. The flavour during smoking is straight bland, no bourbon, no tobacco notes - nothing. The room note is nice.

Smell was nice from the pouch. I thought it must be a good quality of tobacco but after tasting it, it was just too much for me. Old guys after shave mixed with cheap bourbon. Never again. Never again.
