Motzek Dark Orion
(4.00)
Everything that appeals to the latakia lover. Broad flavors, from leatheriness and mellow sweetness. 40% latakia and 30% Orientals in combination with a Virginia-mixture make a pleasing smoke. Very soft, yet highly aromatic. Relaxing, flattering, simply good!

A delightful Balkan-styled blend with rich and fragrant Orientals, a bold amount of Latakia and mild sweetness!
In the baggie-note this seems to be more Latakia-forward... smoky, earthy... but also fragrantly ethereal, oily and slightly sour from the Orientals. Very little sweetness is present.
Classic cut from Motzek, this is a coarsely cut mixture of broken flake, thick ribbons and coarse cut tobaccos. Taste-wise this is aptly named: "from another star"! The Orientals are instantly noticeable, being very ethereal, woodsy and slightly sour, whilst 40% of a smoky, earthy and woodsy, slightly buttery-sweet Latakia make for a bold base for the Orientals to shine on. The Virginias add a touch of sweetness for balance, but aren't really present in the smoke.
Despite the high amounts of Latakia and Orientals this isn't overly strong, nor harsh. Very smooth, only the Orientals add a pleasantly sharp edge to the smoke and make for an excellent after-dinner smoke for me. 14€ per 100g... what else to say? Another wonderful tobacco from Tom!
People over here in Germany always crave for the almost mystical blends from the US... and I admit a lot, if not too much of german blends and blenders are just blending for profit... mixing blends that'll appeal to a broad market and "the average pipe smoker" not daring to mix something with genuine character and exotic mixtures... but with Motzek and HU-Tobacco we have two shining gems, that can easily hold up with the genuine US-blenders!

This is truly amazing blend. Smooth blend but it's on the retrohale where you get full taste.
It's creamy, little sweet chocolate/caramel-like, latakia and orientals do they magic with earthy and wood notes.
A must try blend.
