Peretti RCTR
(3.50)
Peretti's only pure Virginia mixture. RCTR shows a subtle sweetness and nuance without cloying. A refined mixture for the Virginia lover.
Notes: We've got many blends. But we lack one distinct and classic style of mixture. An all Virginia blend. RCTR covers that base gracefully. Initially blended as a limited item for the Chicago show some years ago, we've brought it back in a semi-limited capacity for our ever growing list of dedicated pipers to (hopefully) enchant.
Not long ago, we received a call from a curious customer who had dug up a tin of RCTR he hadn't touched until a few days ago. He called because our collective handwriting is abysmal and he couldn't make out the glyphs marked on his can. Fair.
"R.... C I B?", he asked.
After a few moments of thought and a few odd looks between the staff at Peretti's, we decided it could only have been RCTR. The man who called was simply delighted at how wonderfully the tobacco had aged. After that conversation, we decided to blend up a batch and make it available online. Try it for yourself and learn what bad penmanship is like.

A really pleasant medium bodied medium strength VA blend with lots of aging potential. A really enjoyable, smooth and cool smoking and bite free. I have cellared away pounds of it. It is very nice.

A very pleasant all day smoke. I bought an 8oz. paint can from Peretti and it's moisture content was perfect ready to be smoked. I loaded a tall narrow Reum billiard. This being a straight virginia, I expected grassy, hay flavors, but it was the opposite. This one is very earthy with hints of citrus tones with a slight hint of grassiness in the retrohale. It's a dry smoke that requires minimal relights. finishes in a white clean ash.

I'm out in the garage smoking LJ Peretti's RCTR.
The summer night is quiet. The air is still very warm and touched with humidity.
So what are my thoughts?
The pouch aroma is bread-like to my nose.
The taste is nuanced. Not a flavor bomb. Not a sweet smoke, yet there is a subtle sweetness to it. There is quite a bit going on -- if you look for it. Subtle is the word for this blend.
RCTR would work as an all day smoke, but I think the mixture is better for those contemplative moments.
It is a much more refined tobacco, IMO, than say C&D's Virginia Flake.
I can't put my finger on any one flavor profile. The taste to my palate is something of a kaleidoscope of flavors. A very pleasant kaleidoscope.
RCTR would make a good mixer. One might also want to add a bit of something to sweeten it up a bit.
All in all, I like this. I'm going to order more so I have it on hand for those quiet nights out in the garage when the contemplative mood hits.
