Cornell & Diehl Midnight Drive

(2.33)
The engine hums beneath you. The evening air rushes across your face as you leave a cloud of troubles in your wake, supplanted by the dark, yet sweet aroma of bright Virginias, Perique, a touch of Latakia, and a hint of Turkish leaf. There's nothing like a Midnight Drive.

Presentation: Label shows a silhouette of a fellow enjoying his pipe while driving in the night with the moon in the background.

Cut: Hard to say what cut this comes in because it's rather inconsistent. Somewhere between a coarse cut and a ribbon but with random pieces in it. For example, I found about a nickle-sized corner of a plug. Moisture is alright.

Tin note: Sweet and smoky bread/earth.

Tasting notes: Sometimes a sweet twist, sometimes a tart twist to the mainly earthy, smoky, woody core. I get an obvious tanginess whenever I am drawing from the pipe. There is a decent level of spice intermittently. The finish is sometimes leathery.

Mechanics: N/A—A well behaved blend.

Extra Remarks: This is not an attention grabber of a blend—some complexity, and rather full of flavor, but just smoking it without thought it feels simple. I think you need to smoke this analytically to appreciate it. Steer clear if you hate deep, dark tasting english blends, this borders on latbomb territory. I like this blend, although I likely won't repurchase after this tin runs out. Not the best blend I've had but certainly not near the worst either, just "good"—3 stars.
Pipe Used: IMP Straight Billiard Meer
Age When Smoked: 1 year 2 months
