Danske Club Black

(2.25)
Not a pressed tobacco, but 'double fermented'. The advantage of this process is that the tobacco is very smooth and mild, together with a pleasant aroma. South American, Zimbabwe and U.S. flue-cured tobacco together with burley and Malawi dark fired tobacco.
Notes: The Black (formerly Black Luxury and re-named due to EU regulations) tobacco blend from Danske Club offers velvety black character with light to medium intensity and a strong vanilla aroma due to the double-fermented black cavendish tobacco. For several decades the exclusive loose cut mixture convinces with captivating aromas and rather light to medium-strong taste intensity. Traditionally processed in Denmark.

A fellow pipe club member likes to go to swap meets and pick up the assorted pipes, lighters, tobacco, etc. He had a 50-gram pouch of this that he gave me. This thing is so old I can only envision some poor relatives cleaning out the room of the recently deceased grandpa and discovering this buried in a desk drawer or in an old Seersucker jacket where it lay preserved for the past 40-50 years. I tried to narrow down the age but only so-so. It is pre warning label, the German tax stamp is in Deutsche Mark. Also, this pouch is named Black Luxury. So, with all of these clues I can say with some certainty pre 2002. The website says this is ribbon but what remained in the pouch was solid black hard pieces with a strong perfumey smell to it. I have a dedicated, one of several pipes for aromatics. The one I chose is a modern looking Chacom black volcano with white swirls on the base and stem. Upon firing up this antique blend I got an overwhelming taste of perfume is only how I can describe it. It is supposed to be vanilla but who knows what age has caused this blend to metastasize into. The second bowl seem to mellow out and the wife who happen to be outdoors says this one had a strong fruity smell to it. This blend I believe could definitely be a ghoster. I have about one small bowl in the pouch left and have retired this to my “collectible” glass display cabinet. Even with a fresh pouch which I am not going to buy I would still probably give this one a 2 star. Not that bad actually but I will just stick to BCA if and when in the mood. It was fun trying it out and reading up on what little history I could find in regards to the age of this pouch. It would have been nice if they could of just date these with at least the year or something.

Danske Club - Black Luxury.

I bought this 6 months ago whilst on holiday in Majorca. Sadly, the highlight of that holiday was finding some tobaccos unavailable here in the UK. The rest of the holiday sucked!!

The ribbons are robustly built, very dark brown in colour, and have a potent aroma of sweet vanilla. The moisture isn't as I'd expect such a strong smelling blend to be. It isn't even a touch moist, but spot on.

The vanilla is unquestionable in the smoke, unfortunately it's not the best vanilla aromatic I've had. On the positive side, it ignites easily. To be fair, for the initial quarter the flavour's nice: lots of smooth vanilla. But, after this stage has passed the smoke develops a scathing note. Sort of burnt, astringent, and bitter; this ruins the rating. Again, being fair, the temperature of the smoke's low, and I get no tongue bite. The tobaccos taste alright, but struggle for attention because of the hefty topping.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: not bad.

Black Luxury? Hmm, the initial flavour's worth a recommendation, but subsequently it becomes horrible. Because of this I can't recommend it, at all:

One star.

Danske Club Black-Pipe tobacco created by Virginia and Burley tobaccos. The double fermentation creates the black color and delicate sweet taste These are written on the 50 grams of tobacco. So what can I say about this aroma? At the opening you are delighted with a very pleasant flavor of vanilla and caramel and yet to the smell and even to taste, very similar, I feel with Thomas Radford's Sundays Fantasy. It comes to eat it I could say. The first smoke was with him, the tobacco left just about an hour to breathe, so a little wet and often hot. It was expected for an aromatic . From what I read, left to dry, it would be a smoke a little more pleasant. I've burned about 10 sticks from one head to another. The fluffy smoke is sweet, sweet flavor. Black Cavendish makes her feel sweet , there's something to be expected. My conclusion is that Black Luxury is a modest tobacco that does not give you back. It is recommended to smoke in the cold season and around the winter holidays. It is not a whole day tobacco.

Like other Aromas, don't rush it even though keeping it lit is somehow difficult and need to have your matches ready. I recommend not to apply three-step filling to fill your bowl up. It might be helpful to load less to run it continuous. About mixing with others, forget it! taste will be changed and you may miss the only positive point, I mean the room note. Tongue-bite is possible as you are trying to keep pace with its slow-burning character. In general, it is a good Aroma for having a nice rainy evening with non-smokers!

Back in the days when I had started smoking the pipe, this was a regular fellow. Later becoming more familiar with "natural/british style" tobaccos we both seperated. Not long ago I bought a pouch again, and after nearly 20 years and I was amazed that still it smelled and smoked like it used to. For me this is one of very few aromatic tobaccos I enjoy from time to time, for it´s of good quality. The aroma lasts a pipe ful, maybe not much complexity during smoke, but still a pleasure and by no means a so called Rauchpappe (cardboard smoke). This tobacco deserves more attention.

Good. Sweet. Not at all "Sugar in a pipe" although I liked this description used by some other reviewer! Not artificial to me, but also not compareable to quality tobaccos such as W.O. Larsens Signature. I like it, although you can only smell the vanilla flavoring- not taste it.

My brother was given this Tobacco as a beginners taster... We smoked it together on many different occasions.... Never really came to understand it. It just seemed to taste bad. Very quickly tasted of ash. Really not nice stuff. It has a beautiful room note... But that won't do u much good... Only ur neighbor. My brother has ened up throwing it out. We now smoke Kentucky bird.. That is a great starting pipe tobacco. Can't recommend this stuff.

I bought 100gr tin can of this tobacco. Burns slow, not so dampish, bites the tongue a little but it has nice aroma. Tastes well with a cup of filter coffee.
