HU Tobacco Nyala
(3.92)
Nyala is a medium bodied blend made of Malawi burley with a hint of perique, Brazil tobaccos and a little amount of Havana cigar leaf. A well balanced mixture with decent chocolate notes, and the nice and spicy taste of the Havana leaf in the background. Smooth and complex.
Notes: Red Virginias ready rubbed flake, Malawi burleys cube cut, perique, Havana leafy and a touch of Brazil tobaccos. The subtle chocolate notes of the burley, the sweetness of Virginia, as well as the perique fruitiness are paired with the finest Havana leaves and spicy Brazil tobacco. Optimally balanced, each seasoning tobacco receives its required space without dominating.

This review is from another nice sample that I received from the esteemed VP of the San Diego Pipe Club that I attended before moving out of state last year. I looked up the word Nyala and it is a South African Antelope. Though is says it is not flavored I in my many years of wisdom detect a chocolate casing is added to the tobacco. Maybe not flavored means no topping. This has a medium-full taste with hints of cocoa occasionally coming through. Smokes smooth with an enjoyable taste. I have rarely been able to pick out individual components of a blend while smoking unless maybe Perique or Latakia. With that being said this blend must have some really good cigar leaf as I find no harshness that you sometimes can get with a cigar tobacco blend if the leaf is not really up to par. In closing I will say that this blender is really a master in his class. Well done.

HU Nyala is clearly suited to those who enjoy a fine cigar whilst sipping a non-peated whisky or a fine bas Armagnac. It is truly one of the best cigar blends I have ever tried. Hans Wiedemann has once again shown how masterful he is with Red Virginia, a subtle touch of Perique, Brasil, Burley and some Havana. It becomes buttery with age, and boasts notes of milk chocolate, stewed pears and dates all enveloped in a hazelnut crepe that has been seasoned with white pepper. It should be smoked in a medium to large bowl and absolutely not rushed after a nice satisfying meal. I was told the room note was cigar, nutty chocolate and a hint of grilled steak. I thoroughly enjoyed this blend and highly recommend it. Enjoy!
