Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Brown Irish Sweet Apple

(1.50)
Brown Irish, the thicker version of Brown Bogie, is manufactured by spinning dark leaves into a rope, for a stout smoke. Flavoured with sweet apple for chewing or smoking. Brown Irish Sweet Apple- The main feature of this tobacco is the addition of inverted sugars and Sweet Apple to the 'filter' leaf. This is then spun into a rope form before being made into a roll which is cold-pressed overnight

Hefty stuff this. I can't say I could detect much apple, nor was it very sweet. Not far removed from Brown Bogie, it's a powerful tobacco for those times when a collosal dose of nicotine is needed - if smoked accidentally by someone expecting an aromatic it may cause terrifying and unexpected side effects...

Cut into the thinnest slices and rubbed out lightly it provides a mighty smoke and immediately invigorating nicotine hit. The flavour is leathery, woody and cigar like. A nicotine tingle in the mouth may progress to a harshness which is common to these very strong tobaccos. The side stream is smokey and slightly cigar like and doesn't offer much sweet apple. I can't imagine they sell much of this so perhaps the apple essence has evaporated in storage.

Smoke this in a clay pipe whilst digging a trench in the rain for the full "navvy" experience.
