The earthy, nutty, molasses sweet burley is the star component. The Virginias are citrus sweet with some grass, and is an important background player. I barely noticed the Kentucky which probably accounts for a slight woodiness. There is a very mild bourbon topping that doesn't get in the way of tobaccos. The nic-hit is mild. Won’t bite, but can sport a hint of harshness, and a very light cigarette note if puffed fast, especially toward the finish. Burns just a mite slow with a fairly consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires a few relights, mostly due to the cut of the tobacco. Has a nice after taste. It’s an all day fairly cool smoke, and has more flavor and is a cooler smoke than the later House of Windsor version.

I enjoyed the House of Windsor blend back when, smoked what I had and moved on. Was lucky to score an old Lorillard tin on epay. This original is very close to the HOW blend but the flavor is more definite. This is a simple very basic nutty burley smoke with a topping that, for me, pretty much matches the semisweet taste I get from Crooner, kind of honeyish. Packs and smokes easily. Nothing exciting but simple and inoffensive. A very simple lightly cased old time blend. If it was still made I'd keep some around. This is the stuff our fathers and grandfathers smoked daily.
Pipe Used:
Miscelaneous generic briars
Age When Smoked:
At least 30 years-an old tin

Now that the House of Windsor has taken over many old classics, and now that P&T magazine's Summer 2003 has featured them, I was a sucker to purchase them all.
Cool burning with little variance in flavor. Though topped with something, the topping is so light it is almost undetectable.
Positives: Relatively cheap, burns cool, has a nice room note.

I remember trying Briggs Mixture many years ago. I remember this corner store cube cut tobbaco to be very lightly flavored and a mild smoke without a strong bite. If your one of those guys who enjoys aromatic tobbacos or full bodied English blends , this probably wouldnt do it for you.

Very plain, old fashioned Burley /Virginia. Maybe good for when you are doing some yard work, reading, etc. Not a contemplative smoke.

Cube cut Burley with a slight light topping. Nothing fancy, just a plain old-fashioned smoke of a style popular until the 60's or so. Great in a cob, cool in a briar, but not exciting.
