Hearth & Home Larry's Morning Blend
(3.60)
If you're a fan of Larry's Blend, you know it's a very rich, Latakia-laden pipe tobacco. If you love your blend with lots of smoky leaf, you now have a little more subtle choice - Hearth & Home Signature Larry's Morning Blend. The name might indicate that this is low in Latakia, but that's not the case. There's still lots of Cyprian leaf here, but the Virginias are brighter, along with the Orientals, so the flavor is a touch softer, but it's still bold and robust.

Visually, it's a dark mix of ribbons with a few light strands here and there. It opens quite well with a blend that leans a bit towards the fuller side. Smoky Latakia leads, while the fragrant Orientals compete for a close second. The Virginias can often get lost, but they're there, providing balance, a bit of hay and a tad red Virginia earth and fruit . The last 3rd is unimpressive and gets a little muddled, but not unpleasant. Short aftertaste. 3 stars.

Tin note of pungent smoky and sweetly tart wine. Tobacco is black, brown and light brown mix of ribbon and small course cut. Moisture content is good, no drying/prep needed. Burns moderately with few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and very consistent, with notes of very smoky, incense, floral, herbal, tangy citrus, tart mildly sweet fruit, very woody, mildly savory, leathery, musty dry vegetation, mildly earthy, spices, bread, spicy, acidic, orange peel, a zesty lemon sour background note, and a very peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Virginia supporting a little more than the Oriental/Turkish. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.
