Lane Limited Andullo
(2.87)
From P&C's website: Lane Andullo brings a type of tobacco never sold commercially in the US to their huge following of fans. Dominican Republic cigar leaf is tightly bunched for two years to create a dark and flavorful tobacco that has been smoked as pipe tobacco in the Dominican for a long time. The folks at Lane Limited got their hands on some of this rich leaf and combined it with a good amount of silky black cavendish to add smoothness to the blend, and finished it with a touch of latakia to add depth and complexity.

I liked this blend alright, but it is definitely not something I would choose to smoke often nor will it be something I would choose to stock up in my cellar. It is kind of a weird blend that, for me, did not get really tasty til past the half way point of the bowl. This is about the time the topping mellowed out and allowed the cigar leaf flavor to poke through. I really did not even notice the latakia.
The topping for me, kind of spoiled the first half as it is pretty pervasive. The vanilla, for me, was obvious, but I could not identify the other elements until seeing on here that is was licorice. I guess that makes sense. I usually like a licorice topping, despite not liking black licorice that you eat, but it just didn't do anything for me in this blend. In any case, once it mellows at below half a bowl, the topping really starts to play nice and offers a pleasant finish.
Overall, I would give this two stars and can see where this may jump to someone who enjoys an aromatic, but is looking for more strength. This blend does give quite a kick in the arse in nicotine content. It may also appeal to someone who enjoys an Acid cigar as that is the most similar thing I can compare this to.

I bought this on the strength of Wilke Churchill, a wonderful blend with cigar leaf that also incorporates Black Cavendish for a full bodied feel with a mellow sweetness. I would buy more of that blend, but it's roughly 25 percent more per pound than something like Nightcap, of which I have bought many pounds at what I consider a reasonable price.
Andullo is a jet black blend that has similar components to Churchill, featuring Black Cavendish, Latakia, and Cigar leaf. By comparison, Churchill incorporates more variety, including Burley, Virginia, and Turkish leaf. The two approaches to the inclusion of Cigar Leaf in a blend are diametrically opposed. Andullo is a straight up, airy Aromatic with Black Cavendish overwhelming anything else, and Churchill is a serious, natural blend which tones down the Black Cavendish by a huge measure.
Andullo may indeed feature Latakia and Cigar Leaf, but in such little amounts that you won't find this compelling if you crave a strong smoke. For me, it's just another aromatic to throw in a pile with 1Q and the likes of Captain Black.
**I have added exactly half of White Burley when I smoke this mix and it has extended the body to something acceptable.

Lane Limited - Andullo.
Well, this is nothing like I expected. When I saw cigar leaf and liquorice in the description part of me was prepared for a dry, and bitter experience. But, that isn't the situation.
The ribbons that make Andullo are all quite short, so don't expect long, stringy, or twiggy pieces. It's all black, apart from a tiny amount of brown pieces; a very small amount. The moisture's dead-on.
Even though the cigar leaf is quite a formidable flavour, it isn't overly dominant. I was worried about the anisette seeming too astringent, but the vanilla and black Cavendish put a stop to that situation. The Latakia has been added with an extremely light hand, but considering the power of the other flavours (tobaccos and added ones), it would need more to get noticed; I can't really taste it. The burn from Andullo's cool, and quite consistent.
Nicotine: medium. Room-note: tolerable.
Andullo? Not like I anticipated, but it wouldn't be a regular smoke. Somewhat recommended:
Two stars.

Let's start with this: It's pronounced Anduyo, not Andulo. Now to the review.
Tin note of chocolate and licorice.
The two main flavors that I get are the cigar leaf and the toppings, with the Latakia giving some leather/smoke background noise. The topping itself reminds me too much of medicine and candy and is too strong for me in this combination. I love the idea of this blend and the bold decision to produce something led by this unique Dominican cigar leaf, but I think I'd like it much better either without the toppings or with a much lower amount of toppings.
It comes in a sort of ribbon sort of cube cut, very dark color, perfect moisture level. The flavor doesn't change much throughout the bowl. Easy to pack and smoke, smokes slow and cool with a couple of relights. Can be an easy going all-day blend for those who happen to enjoy this flavor but for me this has been a once-in-a-week smoke more or less. Honestly, I was waiting to finish it and probably won't buy it again.
A bit higher than mild in strength, medium body. Not a very complex blend, but not one-dimensional either. I like the balance between the black Cavendish, the Latakia, and the cigar leaf. I think that the topping is what bothering me here.
As I wrote above, I praise Lane Limited for the idea itself. It's unique and I hope that more blenders will think out of the box as LL did. But the topping is just too much for me here.
