Samuel Gawith Special Flake No.1
(2.83)
Notes: From Synjeco: To me, this is the most exotic SG tobacco! If you like "soapy" tobaccos, here is the one for you. The smell was a bit shocking to me; it smelled like the "Camay" soap, very perfumed. The color range from light to dark, with light brown dominant. The cut is rather medium, and I find the flakes to be easy to rub out. The taste is almost identical to the pouch aroma, esp. at first. The "perfumy" smell gradually dissipates, without disappearing. This is definitely a tobacco that require exclusive pipes for its use.

Notes: I tried this with hopes that it would be similar to the old Condor Flake, but it is not. I smoked about four ounces of this in several pipes. I prefer it in a Meerschaum best, but it was also quite good in my Lakeland-dedicated briar pipe.
Appearance: A moderately tightly pressed, steamed dark chocolate brown flake with abundant topping coating it like confectioner's sugar.
Aroma: Surprisingly mild, for a scented flake, but undeniably floral. Camay soap, dishwashing detergent, Unripened cherry, rose, geranium, basil leaf.
Taste: A surprising smoky presence, barbeque flavor, bordering on a Balkan-type experience (well, that would be stretching it, I suppose). Strong, dominant Camay and Ivory soap flavor, accompanied by rosewater and cream/milk. Rather velvety mouthfeel.
Comparisons: Not as smoky as Balkan Flake, just as soapy as Grousemoor or Conniston (but with a different flavor), not as piquant as Condor Flake.
Bottom Line: For Lakeland/scented flake lovers only! Each blend has a unique flavor. If you are looking for a mildly smoky, rosepetal dishsoap flavor, you will be quite happy with this one.
