Samuel Gawith Grousemoor

(2.84)
An original blend from Samuel Gawith, Grousemoor conjures up a vision of the Lakeland scenery with its accompaniment of seasonal scents. Manufactured in the heart of Lakeland for over 200 years. Using a combination of hand-stripped flue-cured leaf, Grousemoor is first steamed prior to being cut. After further steaming, to give Grousemoor its own golden color, the cut leaf is stoved then “rested”. The final stage of production is the addition of a unique melange of flavors. Grousemoor is a ‘must’ for smokers who want their days to have “Spring in the air”.

Now this is an aromatic I can get behind, whereas I notoriously criticized aromatics in the past. Is it because of the Lakeland topping? Probably so ... although one must admit that it isn't in your face as most other Lakelands I have experienced. I must agree that it does have a rather unique aromatic nose and flavor to it. Right out of the tin you are greeted by a rich golden ribbon cut virginia, with a floral nose, although I cannot put my finger on which particularly flower it smells like. Call me weird, but this has truly been a revelation tobacco for me, in the sense that it's lakeland cased but not overwhelming (well, maybe after the first half of the bowl it gets more pronounced), balanced nicotine wise, sweet but not over the top, fantastic quality tobacco, even burn. Yes, I could smoke this more than once in a day. Flavor wise, like I said, sweet but not candy sweet. I am not sure about the lemon gras, but it is most definitely citrusy. Although the taste does not 100% fit the room note, it sort of reminds me of a mid spring morning in a field full of bloomed elder trees. In spite of being razed in rural central Europe, this English made tobacco has something of my childhood in it.
