The black cavendish has a vanilla flavor. The burleys are lightly nutty and toasty, but rather dull. The cocoa and vanilla toppings cover up much of aspects of the tobaccos, but they have a thin taste to them; not unpleasant, but not very compelling either. The brown sugar and nut notes were faint: the butter slightly less so. Has little nicotine. Burns clean and cool with no bite at a reasonable pace, and leaves just a little moisture in the bowl. Needs an average number of relights. Has a weak after taste. An all day smoke.

In general, this is a blend that is very similar to RLP6 or 1Q in taste, strength and room note.

More specifically, it does have all burley (as opposed to VA/Burley mix like in RLP 6 or VA only in 1Q) with black cavendish so there is a rounder, fuller, nuttier taste that I found enjoyable.

The flavoring is the typical vanilla/chocolate/cream with some other subtle spice or fruit note that I can't pinpoint, but it is nice and not too much.

Burns easy and there is no bite, and the nicotine level is very low.

Good beginner smoke or for someone who enjoys American traditional aromatics.

For those who aren't aware, this blend is Scotty's Butternut Burley in a tin. You can buy it cheaper in bulk by it's real name. There's a lot of chicanery in the pipe tobacco business. This is a prime example. That being said, I'll review it for what it is. It's a very pleasant tasting aromatic with essentially little bite. The flavor is almost that of butter brickle. If you enjoy heavily flavored aromatics, you'll enjoy this.

Pipe Used: Meerschaum

Age When Smoked: N/A

Purchased From: P&C

Similar Blends: The EXACT same blend as Butternut a Burley just in a tin..

I had fun tasting all of the Ole Shenandoa blends (easily gotten at pipesandcigars.com). They have great tin art and really nicely put together aromatics with crisp, tobacco taste, yet with aromatic agents that are not too sweet.

This one had Lane written all over it as far as I am concerned. It tasted much like some of their heavily cased Cavendish tobaccos that you get at your local tobacconist with a variety of names. It'll ghost the dickens out of your pipe, so make sure you are using one dedicated to aro's. Will not bite and is so light that you need to look at the bowl every now and then to make sure you're still lit up.
