Tom Eltang Sweet & Mellow
(3.00)
Featuring an exquisite trio of light and dark cavendish, and just the right hint of chocolate, this blend is an all day aromatic that delivers on flavor as much as it delights in fragrance.
Notes: This blend is being released on September 17, 2014 at Tom Eltang's house in Denmark. Per Mr. Eltang: For some time now (about the past 15 years or so…) I have been playing with the idea of blending my own tobacco as a natural extension of my craft. Finally this happens - through the help and guidance of Sykes Wilford, Smokingpipes.com and the American Pipe Tobacco Manufacture, Cornell & Diehl tobaccos. Enjoy 🙂

The tobacco taste is negligible, but the tart citrus and grass of the gold cavendish peeks through now and then. I barely notice the black cavendish which gives a slight, slight hint of sugar. The cocoa is not too strong, and not so faint that it's boring. The strength is mild, while the taste is a couple of steps past that mark. Has little nicotine. Won't bite, or get dull or harsh. Burns at a reasonable pace, clean, cool and dry with a very consistent taste. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. It's not a flavor bomb by any means, as per intentional design, but it's a very pleasant mild all day smoke that wears well on your taste buds without the cocoa wearing out its welcome as many flavored aros can do. It has a very nice, short lived after taste and room note.

Sweet and Mellow is my second venture into the Eltang inspired blends. More golden Cavendish in than black meets the eye in the tin. It took a while in order to make it dry enough to smoke. S&W is as described in that it could be an all-day mixture due to the fact that it isn’t overpowering. The cocoa flavor comes through well enough without being too much. As with the cocoa, the sweetness isn’t overpowering either, but enough to be satisfy a sweet tooth. All in all a decent offering however there are bulk chocolate aromatics that I find better and less expensive.
