The best way to describe this blend is an oriental with sweetness added by the booze. It was cool and tasty in a different sort of way.
This is a crossover blend that should be enjoyed by both the aromatic and non-aromatic crowds.
I liked it as a change of pace, and believe you will too.

Smoked about 10 bowls of this and gifted the remainder. This was a chalky brown colored pseudo-ribbon with a bag aroma of the brandy flavoring and a nutty burley underneath. It came on the dry side of your basic aromatic, for which I was grateful.
This was a finely crafted aromatic with the brandy flavoring being very much in evidence with each puff but not overwhelming the tobacco flavor. Most U.S aromatics are oversauced and the tobacco becomes simply a carrier for an overabundance of juicy, goopy flavors. Not so this one... and oddly enough, it was the tobacco that was this one's downfall for me. If there is any Virginia in here as is stated, it is nicely covered by the Maryland and burley. As Maryland has barely any taste at all, it must be the burley. Burley leaf from McClellands is not at the level of places like Watch City, Peretti and Uhle. They don't seem to have the respect for that leaf that those three U.S blenders do. As such, the tobacco taste was kind of indistinct and cardboard-tasting. If you've ever smoked Sutliff Breckenridge, you know the taste I'm talking about. Add brandy flavoring to that and you have this. The Townsman Blue suffered the same fate as this one. Too bad because the idea is a good one - make an aromatic for tobacco lovers. The execution, however, was disappointing. 10 bowls was more than enough to figure this one out, and as I said I gifted the rest of the bag.

I am going to give this 4 Stars just because there is absolutely nothing quite like it. It has a unique taste that reminds me something along the lines of Grousemoore. Not that it tastes like Grousemoore - but it is that unique in flavor.
Semi Sweet with a real nice Tobacco taste - just the kind of smoke you might like when you just want to relax with when you have your evening Joe or cup of tea.
The Brandy flavor is there but it doesn't over power the tobacco.
This was gifted to me and I plan to have some on hand when I go thru the 8 oz bag.
A good smoke any time of day.

This is probably the best aromatic pipe tobacco that I have smoked. I started pipe smoking with aromatic tobaccos and moved through all other genres of pipe tobacco. I now smoke all types of tobacco from mild aromatics to extremely strong Virginias, Flakes, Twists, English, Balkans, etc. I believe all pipe tobacco is good in its own way and try not to bash any particular type.
McClelland Townsman Cavendish Brandy (Black Bag) is medium in strength and flavoring. It has a good taste and a pleasant room note that will elicit favorable comments from people around you. When purchased it does not come as wet in the package as do some other aromatics. It burns well, provides a dry smoke and a good quantity of the brandy flavor comes through to the smoker. There is enough nicotine there to let you know you've smoked something. To me, the Townsman Cavendish line from McClelland is superior to their Premium Aromatic tinned series at a much more favorable price. Three stars for McClelland Townsman Cavendish Brandy.

This is another of the Townsman Cavendish tobaccos from McClelland. This one specifically is brandy, and this is really pretty good for an aromatic. Everything about the tobacco hold true here that I wrote in my review of the maple blend. The tobacco is moist and is probably topped. The Townsman series can bite with agressive puffing, but are pretty smooth otherwise. Burns clean for an aromatic.

One my personal favorites. This lovely blend is an old style burley similar to PA. However, this blend is not heavily cased and uses only a light top note for flavoring. A brilliant burley blend of quality tobacco and a lovely splash of brandy. Well done I say.

I just purchased an 8oz bag of this after remembering I enjoyed the Maple version a decade ago and also really like alcohol topped tobacco's. These aromatics are unique in that they provide a nice nicotine hit from the Burley and employ sweetness from the Maryland tobacco's while the toppings do not overpower the true tobacco flavor. The black bag (Brandy) is better IMO than the Maple blend so if you tried the Maple and liked the tobacco but wished for a different topping then I sugesst trying the Brandy or Rum. Again, I really enjoyed having an aromatic that provides nicotine and one that pleases company. 3 stars!

I was given about 2oz of this tobacco with a pipe I bought. I figured it was worth a try and was glad I did. OK, if you want a cool easy smoke, this is it! Light brown in color, semi-sweet, lightly moist and delicious. It will make a new smoker as happy as can be. It may even make a veteran happy! It seems to be hard to find, that is the only downfall to me. Now that I know I like it, I want to buy some. The room note is very nice, lightly aromatic with just a touch of smoke. Very smooth and cool burning. Can be a touch moist, just give it 15-20 minutes before smoking. This will not make you sick to your stomach with sweetness. It is just a light & easy smoke.
