A quality pipe tobacco, blended and flavored to create a smooth aromatic blend. Distinguished balance of premium tobaccos and familiar flavorings. Aromatic blends, with character and charm.

The aspects of this blend as compared to Rowland Regular are much the same. The Virginia is grassy, citrusy sweet with a drop of honey. The burleys are nutty, earthy, toasty sweet in a supporting role, and lightly less obvious in this production. The Oriental is very slightly spicy, smoky and woody, and underscores the experience. The very light chocolate topping is mildly sweet, and doesn’t detract from the tobacco taste, and is a little less noticeable here than in the Regular version. It has a mellowing affect that helps smooths out the blend. The taste level is closer to mild than it is to medium. The nic-hit is mild. Won’t bite, and you’ll only experience a hint of harshness if you puff hard. Burns well and cool with hardly a relight, almost no moisture in the bowl, and a consistent flavor. Has a pleasant after taste, and is an all day smoke. Two and a half stars.

D & R Tobacco - Rowland Silver.

I should have realised this wasn't my day when the ring pull snapped off. So, out came the tin opener. I kind of wish I never bothered! To put it politely I feel disesteemed towards it.

My initial thought was 'how dry?!'. Not a little dehydrated, but crunchy. First bad point. However, I carried on! The blend's made of light and medium brown ribbons and has little in the way of a tin-note.

It lights, as I expected, without any hinderance, but burns faster than I'd like; again, that's putting it politely. It goes like lightning! The tobaccos seem quite even in proportion, and taste ok. It's the topping that ruins this, rather than a rich, chocolate, top-note, it just tastes bitter, and nasty. Because of the hydration, well lack of hydration, it burns too warm.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: not the worst.

Rowland Silver? Although I don't like to vilify a blend there's no way I can give this a recommendation:

One star.

A pleasant after meal smoke. Stuffed into any FF cig tube it tastes just like a Marlboro Silver has been lightly dipped into a creamy cup of hot chocolate. This is definitely not an all day smoker. Though not very strong..the hot cocoa aroma tastes and smells natural. This blend is best reserved for desert smokes. I bought the 3.5oz (stay fresh yogurt style tub) and will be perfectly happy with the 6 or 7 packs of smokes I normally yeild from these. You can tone this out by blending it with Windsail, Two Timer and Ramback. As with all D&R blends it burns a bit hot in pipes. Best to reserve a desert Cob if you only smoke pipes. 3 stars-Recommended.

Although I haven't tried the Silver, I did try the Platinum. Very good blends offered by D&R. I do notice a slight harshness/ashy quality near the bottom of the bowl. Otherwise smooth w/ cocoa-like room note. I just wanted to point out that D&R Rowland is for pipe use only. This is a ribbon cut mixture instead of the normal pipe cut which is interchangable w/ RYO. You could shred the blend and make it easier for packing cigarette/rolling papers. Pipe will give proper smoke and smoother experience.
