Sutliff Tobacco Company Trafalgar #527
(3.25)
From Pipes&Cigars website: Sutliff's unique Trafalgar is a superb mixture of Burley, Cavendish, Virginia and a hint of Latakia to comprise a mild American/English blend. What really makes it different is that it is sweetened with aged Jamaican Rum to create a very special, smooth smoke.

The base of the blend is the grassy/hay-like, citrusy Virginia, though the earthy, nutty, lightly molasses sweet burley often leads a little. The cavendish provides a light honey note and toast as it underscores the Virginia and burley. The smoky, woody sweet Cyprian latakia is a background player. The Jamaican rum topping has a little richness and a hint of spice, and tones down the tobaccos a little. The strength level is just shy of the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is very mild. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a consistent flavor. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a pleasant after taste. Can be an all day smoke.

The Latakia is light but evident. The Burley a little nutty. The Virginia has a nice sweet hay note. The Cavendish adds smoothness and a toasty note. The rum topping is light, sweet, and tastefully done. Has a nice caramel note. A solid, enjoyable smoke.
Mild to medium in body. Medium in taste. Mild in flavoring. Burns well. Smoke this slowly for maximum flavor. Pushing it is a bad idea.

I would classify this blend as an American-English aromatic. The burley is most prominent with the Virginia added for smoothness. The latakia plays a lesser role, but is there in every puff. The rum adds a light sweetness and mellows the blend. It burns cool and dry to the bottom of the bowl and leaves a fine powder. The taste remains constant throughout the bowl.

Cavendish + rum makes it sweet and mellow, latakia gives a gorgeous deep background, virginia brings the mild/medium strenght and put the whole thing together into an excellent composition. Recommended for aromatic and natural lovers as well, and if you are not a latakia fan, also worth a try. Comforting baccy.
