I've just about finished a tin of this Constellation. In the right pipe, this stuff is near sublime. Well, maybe that's exaggerating a bit, but it is quite good. I'm impressed with the way the cavendish and latakia work together, creating a sort of sweet-sour interplay that keeps things interesting. The burley and virginia do something similar on a different level. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is a very well blended tobacco with all the components contributing evenly and in harmony with each other. An everyday smoke? Yes. For a while anyway. I like the name too. Certainly 3 stars.

I feel sorry for those who might be misled by ratings here and would disregard a blend like this because of silly numbers or stars.

The flavor matches any expectations one would have from the blend description. In other words, it tastes like a blend of Latakia, black cav, burley, and VA. And a very good blend at that.

The tobacco quality is top notch and the balance of flavors is superb. Each component contributes its fair share. There is a medium to medium-full proportion of Latakia flavor but none of the other component flavors hid behind it.

I like the saltiness from the natural black cavendish working with the Latakia. The Virginia throws in a little sweetness along with some tang, and the burley does its thing too.

This is fantastic pipe tobacco. The fullness and complexity does not take it out of the running for a great all-day blend.

This is a very good smoke. Well balanced and fairly rich in flavor. The Latakia, Burley, and Virginias provide ample smokiness, earthy nuttiness, and sweetness. The Black Cav adds a note of toast. Medium body and medium to full in flavor. A solid 3 stars.

Constellation is a big American-English blend from the masters of said category and this is another noteworthy example. It's dark and inviting, similar to Maltese Falcon, and although there's a high proportion of Latakia, it smokes smoothly for a full- flavored blend, owing to the cavendish in the mixture. The burley provides a nice change of pace from the Orientals in the Balkan recipes, although I prefer the latter category for its finesse. Definitely worth a try, especially on a clear, cool night while star gazing with an ale in hand. Three American stars.

I like the moisture content of my tobacs to be very dry. This sample of #411 is almost crispy.

First third: Burley is evident at the first light, followed quickly by the Latakia and the Virginia tobaccos. There's a hint here of something that reminds me of the Gawith line of Virginias. Burley tends to be the major player, though not by much.

Second third: The Virginia flavor, which leans toward tanginess, tends to take the lead, with an underpinning of play between the Burley and Latakia. I'm not noticing any of the overt sweetness I had expected due to the inclusion of the Cavendish leaf. That faint hint of "Gawith-ness" continues.

Final third: The Latakia has taken the lead in the final part of the bowl. The Burley leaf has taken on its charactristic bitterness which plays well with the smokiness of the Latakia and the tanginess of the Virginias. The Cavendish has lent body to the entire bowl, but has never raised any distinctive flavor. There's still that hint of "Gawith-ness."

If you like Barking Dog, Morley's Best, Easy Times and the like, you'll feel right at home with this tobacco. A very interesting take on the American/English genre which has been mastered by C&D. I get the idea that if you find the right pipe for this blend, it could become an all-day favorite.

Appearance and Aroma: Looks like an Americanized English Blend. The typical combo of colors and leaves very apparent. Latakia is the predominant aroma.

Packing and Lighting: A breeze as is typical from C&D. Moisture is perfect.

Initial Flavor: The Cyprian Latakia is predominant, but settles quite quickly.

Mid-Bowl: This blend is well rounded with all the leaves mixing well. No one leaf ights for predominance.

Bottom of Bowl: A slight increase of strength and flavor, just a good solid smoke. All is dry and mottled gray at the end.

Overall: This is solid blend that is perfect for all day smoking if one wishes, but is nothing spectacular.I won't be purchasing anymore, though. I suppose one could do much worse. I'll stick to "Hanted Bookshop" and "Pirate Kake" for now...
