I thought I'd try one of Habana's (pipesandcigars.com) house offerings and I haven't been displeased. Although the Virginia predominates, there is enough Latakia to give the blend a little punch. The Perique is mostly noticeable as a slight sourness in the smoke. When I first opened the 8 oz. package I thought a detected a slight mildew oder (which I've found often from Periques) but a little drying in our dry Arizona outback took that away. The tobacco smokes to a gray, basically non-gooey ash with increasing bite towards the end of a bowl.
For an english-style afficiando like myself, the blend seems a little nondescript, but seems clear of casings, flavorings, and all the other stuff they now put in tobaccos, and the price is reasonable. Actually, I'd give it 2.5 stars.
