The earthy, woody, smoky, leathery, mildly creamy sweet cigar leaves are the lead component. The dark fired Virginias provide a bit of strength with their earthy, almost muddy qualities in addition to a bit of wood, some spice, and a tangy, lightly fermented dark fruit sweet and slight sourness as a strong supporting player. The lighter Virginias add a light grassy vegetativeness and a small amount of tart citrus in the background. The nutty, earthy, woody, dry, slightly sharp white burley is also in the background. The plummy, spicy, raisiny perique underscores the experience. The taste is a step shy of reaching the full threshold. The nic-hit is a step past medium. Won’t bite or get harsh, but it has a little rough edge at times. Burns fairly cool, and very clean at a moderate pace with a very consistent, well balanced, deeply rich flavor. Easily burns to ash, leaves little dampness in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has a pleasantly lingering after taste. Not an all day smoke, but it’s repeatable. I suggest a small bowl for this one.

Finally...if you look into my reviews you'll may notice I'm Motzek Fan(atic)! Their offering is right on spot to my personal taste and I mostly smoke their blends. I am also a huge fan of blends with Cigar-leaf in it, but sadly the only cigar-leaf blend available over here are H5 and H1 by Tabacum who are sold out until next year. Dörk´n Berger is the icing on the cake for Motzeks offering of blends, whom I love more than any other pipe blends!

As the baggie arrived I instantly openend it to see a neat little mixture of Curly Coins, loose tobacco and coarsely broken cigar leaf. The losse tobacco is bright- to medium brown, whilst the Curly Coins also hold a black core. I suppose they used several different cigar leaves, as their colors range from bright- to medium- and dark-brown! The unburnt aroma is that of creamy, tangy cigars, a little earthy and nutty with a minor sourness to it.

There's plenty of cigar leaf in it and when packing take care to get some leaves of all the ingridients. I take some loose tobacco, a Curly and some cigar-leafs, that I rub out a bit more.

Dörk´n Berger is genuine and genius in taste! Creamy, tangy-spicy cigar aroma is easily noticeable and underscored by the white Burleys earthy and nutty aroma and spice. The Perique adds a minor sourness to the blend and a good punch of its typical pepper! The dark fired Virginias add a refined, woodsy smokiness to it and contributes to the depth this blend has to offer. The other Virginias add a slight sweetness to tame the power of the other three spiceful ingridients and rounds it to perfection.

Even tho its full-bodied and rich, the strenght isn't too high. Medium fits well. As usual most natural pipe tobacco by Motzek, with no flavorings or artificial casings. They only use Salt, Sugar, Water, Honey, Vinegar, heat or cold for preserving and flavoring their blends - nothing more!

Oh jeez, I love this blend..the cigar leaf is always present and takes a lead-role with the peppery, nutty-earthy and spicy Burley/Perique duo, whilst the Virginia helps making it digestible and easily enjoyable. Even tho I'm not a fan of cigars and haven't smoked many of them in my life, I'm thrilled by this blend and its cigar-aroma.

Cigar meets pipe(-tobacco) and Tom Darasz truly made something special of the ingridients. I was so keen on this blend, I instantly ordered two more bags of it and now have 300g of it at home. That's the higest amount I have of any blend atm. It is described as "Lim. Edition" on the website, but a bird whispered to me that it'll join the regular range of Motzek.

This will appeal to the pipe smoker that also loves cigars, as well as to fans of full-bodied, spicy blends with depth and a special, unique aroma. I can really see many styles of pipe smokers enjoy this...the Burley fan, the English Smoker, who is lookig for a spicy, smoky blend without Latakia (it has a much better room note than Latakia blends!) and any smokers, who likes rich spice, a creamy smoke and a lot of refinement in a blend with depth.

4/4 Stars...easy decision here!
