The Germain's line hosts some of the most sought after and famous blends available (although usually not available). But among them is this gem that doesn't get enough attention.

Celebration is a Scottish mixture that I would classify as aromatic, yet smokes just as effortlessly and is as captivating as any of their staple blends.

Every tobacco used plays a role. You get grass and breadiness from the Virginias, a bit of spice on the nose from the Perique, tang and woody spice on the palate from the Orientals, sweetness and toastiness from the black Cavendish, and a touch of lingering smokiness from the small amount of latakia.

The honey is there from start to finish as long as you smoke slow, but it's not the main event in my opinion. What makes this blend stand out to me is that all the flavors meld together to create a profile of finely matured red wine. It has a fruity berry-like essence mixed with a slight fermentation, mild incense, plum sourness, and whispers of vanilla.

The blend itself behaves well. Doesn't bite in the slitest, packs and lights like a breeze, and doesn't leave any goopy moisture. To add, the nicotine level is almost negligible and will be very gentle with you (but still satisfying).

It's an expertly made blend with a soft but distinct character. While it's not my everyday smoke, it's one that I find myself reaching for when I crave its unique flavor profile. One that I have yet to find anywhere else.

It might need a little drying time if you prefer and I find it tastes best in a Cob, clay, or nose warmer.

Since I don't like pouches, I bought Germain's Celebration in a 100 g tin.

The ribbon cut mixture is of mostly light brown color with only a few darker leafs. The tin note is sweet and woody as well as slightly tart with hints of honey and plum, the later probably from some Perique.

Filling your pipe is quite easy, in doing so I prefer the Frank method. A single charring and true light will usually do the job.

It's a mild smoke. From the tin note I had expexcted a sweetish, fruity taste. However, enen though there is a distinct honey sweetness to the smoke, especially at the first half of the bowl, I can't detect much fruitiness. The Virginias in the blend give it a tangy aftertaste, the Perique a certain acidity and slight bitterness, and the Latakia and Orientals some peaty smokiness, which dominates the finish. It's an interesting mixture. Enjoyed with leisure, there's no tongue bite at all. It burns down evenly with only a little moisture, leaving some powdery ash.

The room note is rather indistict with only a little sweetness to it, but rather a natural tobacco smell.
