The strong, earthy Virginias have a bit of tangy dark fruit, a light tart and tangy citrus and vegetative, floral grass, some wood, herbs, and a few cigar notes. The deep, sweet rum topping and sugars tone down the tobaccos just a mite, and hold on to the finish. It's full in strength and taste. The nic-hit is a little past the medium mark. Won’t bite or get harsh, but has a minor rough edge at times. No matter how you prepare it, it will burn slow, cool, and clean with mostly consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires a fair number of relights. Has a pleasantly lingering after taste, and room note. Not an all day smoke.

Gawith Hoggarth - Brown Twist Sweet Rum.
Here we have a very thick rope. I'm talking about two CM across! Sadly it's too damp. It is in need a decent airing prior to smoking it otherwise you will struggle to create a good, consistent and even burn. The rope gives off a strong aroma of rum which is more pre-eminent than in the smokes flavour.
It burns well, providing it's been aired right. Actually, I tried a bowl without drying it and it was near impossible to keep lit! The flavour is brilliant. As I said earlier the aroma from the rope has a stronger rum addition but it is still easily recognizable as being present. As it burns I think it's fair to say it leaves the whitest ash behind I have ever seen! The smoke is unimpeachable in the area of bite. I get absolutely zero in the way of tongue hurt! Another good area is the temperature of the smoke. Cool, cool, cool. If you like N then fill your bowl with this. On the other hand though, if you smoke for taste only then walk away from it!
As a rule I can't say I normally enjoy alcohol flavoured blends but this however suits me like tailored clothing! Four stars without a doubt.

I am generally a fan of twist tobaccos both aromatic and just straight up with a twist (pardon the pun) but I could not get used to this one. It might be because I don’t really like rum. It is very wet and takes a long time to dry. Even then I suffered with tongue bite and I am used to twist and rope tobaccos. There are the usual smoky, sweet and dark fruit flavours that come through followed by a very vague rum type alcohol taste.
It is high maintenance and requires more lighting than it is worth which further destroyed this for me. I would say if you are a lover of rum then give it a go. If you are curious I would go with another rope/twist

Solid and bold flavor when puffing slowly.Strong tobacco and not an all day smoke. Flavoring is very mild and staying in background. Will not bite or harsh. Leaving so moisture in the bowl. Overall very good tobacco and highly recommended at least to try for everybody.

This is another of the classic twists, only slightly less powerful than brown bogie but otherwise a very similar tobacco base, with the rum and sugar topping subtly applied.
The aroma of the twist is missile of strong, earthy Virginia tobaccos, the rum sweetness is very mild indeed and it doesn't smell alcoholic.
I cut it into slivers with a sharp penknife and rub it out a little before loading my pipe. This particular twist lights quite easily and doesn't need many relights, although a little drying time may help in this regard.
The flavour starts mild, sweet, hay, slightly grassy, with a hint of rum in the background. A slight cigar note appears at times. An earthy rich character develops as it is smoked, with an astringent woody background. The aftertaste is leathery and enjoyable. It sometimes offers a tongue tingle from the ample nicotine, but doesn't ever bite.
I find it most satisfactory, but it's not a smoke for beginners. If it leaves you wanting more, it's time to try brown bogie.
