I really wasn't expecting much. The cost, the combination, the art all led me to think i was getting just another cheap pouch from Lane. Ok, the cob, is a unfinished Missouri meerschaum legend- Awesome! So basically, free tobacco with pipe. The package-I do love a blonde with Tattoos...but the package I am talking about is the tobacco package-it was actually sealed, so the tobacco was fresh. Pouch note-subtle, tobacco was moist but not gooey. Packet, lit...and really surprised. It was mild, but really pleasant. No perfume, mild flavor-not overpowering or sweet. No bite-this is where is was most impressed. stayed lit, and burned slower then other pouch blends I have tried. Recommend this for anyone on the budget, or who may have tried other pouches and been disappointed.

The whisky flavor is decent with a slight chemical note, and mostly sublimates the tobacco flavor, though I do notice some grassiness from the Virginia. I got a bare hint of vanilla at times. Burns well, leaves very little moisture in the bowl, and doesn't bite. As an all day smoke, it'll do. At least you get a free pipe.

Had my son in law over yesterday for a BBQ and had 6 pouches of this on hand from low country pipes. He wanted into the world of pipe smoking and this tobacco was his made voyage. In all I got a kick out of the cobb and tobacco. Right out of the pouch it smelled very good. Not strong but good. Packed well and lit right up. No problems at all. Never had to relight for an hour smoke. Son in law did ok. Had a lot of relight but I chalk that up to a new smoker. Burned the cobb down to the bottom and the flavor stayed the same the whole time. In all for 5.00 this worked out very well. Sent him home with the other packs and he was very happy.

Bear in mind I'm reviewing a five dollar tobacco that comes with a four dollar pipe. If you are a sucker for a good deal then look no further, if you are anti-aro or an artisan tin blend smoker with high expectations you need not apply here. One could easily afford to smoke this all day everyday, and I would imagine any humble man would enjoy doing so from a performance standpoint. I agree with JimInks review both on the whiskey note and noticeable presence of a chemical additive, the Virginia is definitely in the foreground as far as the predominant leaf is concerned which is rare for low cost American pouched blends and is one of the selling points for me. It's a tasty mix that satisfies, burns well and is not offensive to the bystanders, worth a try and the price.
