I had seen the VPB line from D&R for awhile but was hesitant to try it because I have had so many bad bags of cheap tobacco. Mark Ryan the owner of D&R has never skimped on giving out good quality tobacco so I took the plunge and ordered the Red bag of VPB. Upon arrival I noticed that this is a vacuum sealed bag just like his premium line. When I opened the bag It smelled wonderful also bright orange and dark brown coloring...could this be?? Could it really be the same quality as other D&R products for only $15 per pound? After smoking a RYO cigarette I knew it was the same. This is the same quality tobacco that D&R uses in the premium lines just labeled differently for a different market. It really makes a heavenly cigarette. This is a great tobacco for someone who likes Marlboro cigs. It doesn't taste exactly like a Marlboro because that would discredit this tobacco. It actually taste better than a Marlboro!! Great daily smoker. Its a Virginia & Burley blend. I suspect it is just his Venguer put in a different bag. This stuff is better than any cheap RYO/MYO tobacco you will find. Highly recommend this to any one making cigs!

This is a solid mixture that's dirt cheap and satisfying on the palate. Think a smoother version of Half&Half minus the anise or heavy orange rind aftertaste. Smoking this out of a corncob as I write my impressions. There's a slight zest (Virginia) and subtle cocoa note (Burley). When I aired out for half an hour the blend had more pronounced malty, pepperish overtone. Best when smoked slowly and given a good tamper or two. It's a smoke as you putter around the house, all day companion. Only a few sticks to pick out but still worth the mulla. A real eye opener if you've never smoked a straightforward Virginia-Burley blend. Room note was subtle and pleasant. Caution, can become a tad ashy if oversmoked. This may very well be Better Smoke's twin.

There are better and more interesting pipe tobaccos but they are usually available only at specialty tobacco shops at far higher prices, so I am comparing this VPB Red pipe tobacco to the other tobaccos more commonly found at your local General Store. I avoid flavored tobaccos including most Cavendish tobaccos but this VPB Red is a high quality smoke, an honest Burley and Virginia blend with a clean bodied, moderately rich taste and no bite. In terms of General Store tobaccos it really is in a class of its own, very good! Try this one and the odds are you might never bother with another.

This is incredible in a Cob. It burns a little hotter in the Hardwood. You can taste both the Virginia and the Burley. It is a similar experience to Three Sails due to the shag cut but this is a little stronger and a little rougher. This is better than every other 1 pound bag of tobacco under $20 out there.
