Solani 639: Tropical Mango Flake
(2.95)
Virginia and burley combined with some black cavendish steamed with mango juice to create a fabulous aromatic.
Notes: Brand New. Rough sketch on the tin of a colonial era ideal of an East Indies location.

This is a very good aromatic for non aromatic smokers. I have been trying to find an aromatic that I enjoy or can at least tolerate because my wife loves the smell of aromatics and hates the smell of everything I smoke. I don't like the taste of most aromatics but this is one of the better ones I have had. Don't be confused, this is definitely an aromatic and has plenty of sweetness but you still get some natural tobacco flavor. The burley really stands out and is very similar in flavor to Solani aged burley flake, not the typical burley you find in most aromatics. You will obviously taste the black cavendish but the virginia helps add natural tobacco sweetness and flavor so you don't just taste cavendish. The mango topping is subtle and after the initial light it really only shows up on the after taste which I really appreciate. It allows you to taste the tobacco then gives you the flavoring after. The chemically aftertaste that I usually find in aromatics is very minimal on this which is another reason why I like this blend. It smokes slow and is not overly goopy. I also appreciate the fact that it comes as a flake. It allows the flavors to meld and tastes much more rich and full than most other aromatics I have tried. Interestingly enough it also ages well. Just like aged virginias the natural sweetness and complexity builds and it has a nice deep bready flavor. Like a dessert pastry. However the mango flavor completely disappears and natural sweetness is all that is left. If you are a non aromatic smoker in search of an aromatic you can tolerate give this a chance.

The sugary black cavendish is just noticeable. The Virginia offers some grass, earth and wood, tangy dark fruit and very tart and tangy citrus (more of this than the dark fruit). The burley, which stands out a little more than the other two components, is nutty, woody and earthy with a touch of molasses. The high quality deeply rich mango topping is deep mostly sublimates the tobaccos. Sweet and sour, there are no chemical notes or any syrupiness in the mango, nor does it weaken at any time. The strength is medium, while the taste is a couple of steps past that mark. The nic-hit is a couple of slots behind the strength level. Burns a little slow, cool and clean with a very consistent sweet and sour, lightly acrid taste from top to bottom that translates to the lingering after taste and room note. Leaves little moisture in the bowl. Requires some relights. No bite, no harsh or dull spots. Not an all day smoke as it does pack some punch. Two and a half stars.

My review will stand in stark contrast to the other review as I am only the second one yet to review this blend. I will start by saying that I am not a big aro smoker, but do enjoy some occasionally. What I choose to smoke when that occasion grips me, I am very particular about. There are only a few I truly enjoy. This one, so far, is either at the top or tied with Gawith's Coconut Twist.
They are both so dissimilar there is room for both. On to the review and to my surprise that I even like this at all. I typically don't like a heavily topped aromatic and, make no mistake, this one is. The aroma is heavy in the beginning and doesn't really leave, but does get lighter as the smoke goes on.
So how can I like it so much? This leaf has some great body underneath the topping. I think the burley is of high quality and really carries this one. As previously stated, I am no aro fanatic and I ripped through this tin in no time. Where does all of this fall with my recommendation?
I highly recommend this to both the Aromatic fanatic and the occasional aromatic smoker. This is rare for me to do as I find these two groups have distinct tastes. The former preferring the sweet air highly topped blends and the latter with the lighter topped blends that let the underlying leaf shine. This is both a heavily topped blend that lets the underlying leaf shine. It is not a common thing and as such, I highly recommend it with four aromatic stars.

I'm generally not a fan of aromatics (with a couple of exceptions when the mood strikes me) but this stuff is delicious. I have yet to be disappointed by anything in the Solani line. The Mango flavour tastes very natural and doesn't have any chemical taste like many other aros do. Highly recommended.

Fabulous smoke! The mango casing does not obscure the tobacco but lingers in the background. I don't pick up any other fruit taste in this blend all though other do. I find 639 to be a rich semi sweet smoke with enough strength to satisfy while not being overbearing. This has become my #1 aromatic pick. Love this stuff !

One of the best aromatics. Nice smooth taste, no tongue bite at all, clean dry smoke, no relights needed. Worth every cent i spend. Highly recommended who's like aromatics.

The tin note was wonderful, very light and fruity with mango dominating. For someone like me who dislikes the flowery smell of many aromatics, this was a welcome change. Using the fold and stuff method, I loaded up my Meerschaum with tobacco straight from the tin with no drying time. The tobacco lit easily. The smoke was light and the flavors were subtle. No bite to speak of and it burned very nearly to the bottom. And it left a pleasant 'moustache note' as well. I'm a fan of stronger tobaccos, but this is one aromatic I can imagine smoking almost every day. Into the rotation it goes!

Good quality natural smelling aromatic here. The tin note is sweet and fruity but, not overpowering. You definitely can pick out the tangy/sour mango and I’m also detecting a vanilla topping is well. I can also pick out slightly tart Virginians and the lightly earthy Burley but, just barley.
Flakes are nice and dark. I like to rub them all out at one time and jar them up. Moisture level perfect and it needs no drying time. No problem lighting it up and keeping it lit either. The flavors definitely translate into the smoke. The tangy mango/vanilla is always dominant. But in a good way as the tobacco flavors play a supporting role. It’s not overly sweet in fact it’s quite tart and compliments the Virginia’s quite nicely in my view. It’s a soft smoke and has no bite at all. Leaves a nice aftertaste. A great summertime tobacco.

This one is brilliant! It has a nice mango flavor that isnt over the top. The tobacco gave no bite, and was as sweet and light as air. This is a pretty tasty mixture, and I will purchase this one again. The room note was great as well.

Solani - 639: Tropical Mango Flake.
The appearance: dark flakes with light stripes. The aroma's conducive to the name, Tropical, and the moisture's good.
The smoke's led by a mango flavour, sort of like a very fragrant peach. But behind this there's also a spot of tartness from some passion fruit. There Burley's rich, and the 'dish' is given a splash of cream by the black Cavendish. The Virginia has a sharpness and it works nicely with the acidity of the fruit. The burn from it's cool and I get zero tongue bite.
Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: alright.
639 Tropical'? When I ordered this I suspected it might find it's way to the bin after a pipe or two. But it's a very enjoyable smoke. Highly recommended:

This is a great tasty aromatic, the flavor of mango is there in every puff without obscuring the tobaccos. Mild Spicy Virginia and sweet Burley go nicely with the Cavendish. It burns at a slow pace, and has no tongue bite.
