Brigham Acadian Blend

(2.14)
This is a shag-cut blend of light and medium brown Virginias with a high percentage of fruity black perique. Mild, naturally sweet, pure tobacco flavor.
Notes: This tobacco was formerly packaged under the brand Mr. B's blend "Tudor Mixture" as part of their D-Series - only the label on the tin has changed. Intended to offer an equivalent to Dunhill's "Elizabethan Mixture".

I am smoking a bowl of this in a Como's Collector edition while reviewing and am enjoying the blend very much. This blend is in their Legends Series. This is the first blend by this maker for me and with my penchant these days for VaPers is was a natural first choice for me. Based on this blend I will be trying more in the future.

First off, I aged this tin for 6 months prior to smoking it. On opening the tin, I was greeted with a rich and full tin aroma of Fruit and Virginia sweetness. It is a riff cut composed of tobaccos running from light brown up to the very dark brown of the perique. The tobacco was much too moist for my taste, so I dumped it in a bowl, spread it out and let it dry for 24 hours. to my pleasure it dried to just the right moisture content. It packs easy onto the pipe and is very easy to light up. It burns very cool and without any tongue bite at all. Could easily be an all day smoke. It claims to be very rich in perique and looking at it one can see it does, however, smoking it, the perique is very mold and not on your face at all. It does give a slight fruity spicy taste to the smoke, but not overly so. The smoke is very rich and sweet and is simply delicious with coffee. It burns down the bowl leaving a steely grey ash that looks like cigar ash. It smokes clean to the bottom, leaving no residue to speak of. The room note is very pleasant and not heavy. I do mot pick up any added flavorings, just a nice all natural tobacco flavor.

I am impressed with this blend. I am enjoying it very much, and look forward to the next bowl of it. I think this is very much a blend to try and therefore highly recommend it.

The Virginias are more grassy than earthy, and have some tart and tangy citrus with a minor dark fruitiness. The earthy, woody perique offers some spice, and stewed raisin, fig and plum as a complimentary, subordinate component. The strength is in the center of mild to medium. The taste level is a step past that mark. The nic-hit is just a little past the mild level. Not a complex mixture, but fairly well balanced, it burns cool at a little more than moderate pace as it’s a shag cut, so I recommend a slower puffing cadence. Won’t bite, and has no harsh spots, but it does carry a few dull moments in the last third of the proceedings. The flavor is mostly consistent to the finish. Requires very few relights, and leaves almost no moisture in the bowl. The after taste is pleasant, but short lived. The room note is tad stronger. An all day smoke that makes a decent every level VaPer for the beginner, but suffers a little from the lack of flavor depth and dimension. Two and a half stars.

This is my first tin as my regulars were not available. I was informed that this blend was a substitute for Dunhill’s Elizabethan; I don’t think so. Upon opening the tin, I was had pressed to smell anything except a mild grassy virginia. If I hadn’t been told it contained Perique, I would not notice. Tobacco cut was fine, packed well, lit easily and burned well. Nothing negative about the product but didn’t meet the promotional level of my particular expectations. Perhaps my opinion will change with time.

I don't know where to start with this awful blend. Its like Brigham got the cheapest blender (and the cheapest blending house), gave them the cheapest tobacco they could find, then tried to run off against Dunhill.

The tin note is uneventful, and holds no promise. It packs and lights well, and required no re-lights. The virginias in this tin, are less than mediocre. No natural sweetness, just harsh cigarette-tasting smoke, mixed with a rather poorly behaved perique, crashing around like a petulent child.

IMO, there is a definitely a casing on this blend, but I have no proof of it. Either way, it adds a rather unpleasant start to the smoke, that never improves.

Frankly, it tastes like I made it - avoid at all costs.

The Virginias are sweet and very grassy with a touch of citrus tang. The Perique is mildly plummy/figgy with a modest amount of spice. The flavor profile is a bit too grassy for my taste. Other than that it's a decent smoke. Can be just a touch sharp on the retrohale.

Mild to medium in taste and body. No added flavoring detected. Burns very well.

This one didn't do a whole lot for me. It was dumped on me by a forum buddy who felt about the same. I smoked several bowls of this and, overall, none were memorable. The sweetness was only so so and the perique was not very spicy. I think the blend is cased to a pretty high degree as it never really seemed to dry out.

In that respect it reminded me of Anniversary Kake, but this one lacked both the flavor and punch of that blend. I am giving this two stars as it may be the only vaper that is produced by a Canadian blender and if you are a Canadian then you could do worse for a vaper, but otherwise I would not really recommend this one and won't be purchasing anymore.

This tobacco has a nice cut and a decent tin note . The perique is not over the hill so one can enjoy the Virginia . In the VaPer world it is sort of a medium range smoke :: that is when one wants something more than a straight Virginia but not a major perique hit . Very useful tobacco for that afternoon smoke when something a little spicy is required but when an after dinner tobacco is too much.
