WOW! Rich, full, sweet, leathery, smoky, woodsy, terpene, manly, musty, satisfying.... That's just the tin aroma. The excellent flavors from slowly sipping a small bowl of smoldering tobacco is no less superlative and satisfying!

Mystic Blend was originally very similar to its companion Honor Blend. This one has the same characteristics except that as a thick broken flake it burns more slowly. Deep and rich Latakia combined with sweet Red Virginia that is readily tasted. The Perique element plays peek-a-boo with the smoker and is a nice touch.

Hermit Tobacco - Captain Earle's - Mystic Blend.

To look at the kake is quite intriguing, rather being one solid colour it's peppered with light browns, yellows, medium browns, and blacks. It appears to have been pressed using chunky tobacco not fine/slightly cut tobacco. C.E.M.B. fluffs to a smokeable consistency easily, and doesn't need any drying; well, my tin didn't.

This was my breakfast pipe today and is a brilliant blend for that slot, to me that is; in all fairness, it's my been my Go-To all day! The Latakia easily deserves the title of 'Leader': smoky, woody, and out-right rich. After the Latakia comes the Oriental and Virginia, with the Perique showing itself delicately after the first third. The burn from Mystic blend is more than adequate, and in keeping with a Lat-Rich blend is the temperature: cool.

I get a more than medium amount of nicotine, and the room-note's only pleasant to tolerable; but who cares about the note? Not me!

Highly recommended.

I am a man, and I am not ashamed to say that my heart belongs to Captain Earle. Rich, full, hearty, juicy, spicy, sweet, and salty. Hermit blends, via Cornell and Diehl, own my soul. The very smell of the pressed bricks in the tin excite me to the marrow. Nothing finer in my book. I cannot say anything that I haven't already said. Mystic is just under Ten Russians, and tied with Nightwatch. 3.75 stars....it would be 4 stars if it weren't for my opinion that Ten Russians is the most a$$ kicking, tasty man-smoke in the universe.

I will have no problems stocking up on Mystic.

Mystic has, like the other's in the Captian Earl's series I have tried thus far, a full dose of Latakia. It is dark, earthy, rich, smoky and slightly sweet. If you enjoy Latakia and enjoy cake tobacco than Mystic fits the bill. Mystic is another cool burning, quality blend from Hermit.

Reviewing a gifted sample. The sample I received was broken crumbled flake/cake, and a bit on the dry side.

Lots of latakia out of the gate, rich but not overpowering. A nice Virginia sweetness is up front, and a subtle perique pepper is present as well. While Ten Russians was a knockout punch of flavor, Mystic is more subtle, yet just as complex. I've been smoking Mystic in a cob (as I usually do with latakia heavy blends), but I'm thinking it might be even better in a briar.

Unfortunately, there's something in this blend that stings my mouth and tongue. It's not intensely painful, but it's uncomfortable enough that it reduces my enjoyment of it. I will definitely be able to finish this small sample, but I won't be buying more after this sample is done.

This has quickly become my favorite Hermit blend. The last batch I got was pressed with two small bricks of tobacco up-right in the tin. This is a very nice change of pace from the 965 I smoke most often.I was surprised at the mixed reviews this blend has recieved.I know of at least three members of my pipe club that swear by it.It's not as over powering as 965,but it is rich and full.If your tastes lean toward the english blends do try this tobacco without wait... Highly Recommended! prep

Tin note of sweet fruit and smoky. Tobacco is a marbled black and dark brown Krumble Kake. Moisture content is great. breaking off and rubbing out takes a little effort. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to full and moderately consistent, with notes of floral, sugared Rasins, smoky, spices, leather, woody, fermented vinegary sour, bread, mildly acidity, rich earth, musty herbal vegetation, zesty orange peel, tart and tangy citrus, incense, a sweet and savory background note, and a peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Oriental/Turkish and Virginias supporting. Perique and Cavendish are cheering them on. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

I love this stuff. I hadn't smoked Mystic in several years and recently decided to pick it up again. Turns out it's even better than I remember. The proportions of the different tobaccos used hit the nail on the head! A very harmonious blend to say the least. It has become my favorite breakfast smoke. Absolute perfection with a cup of black coffee on a cool mountain morning. Try it. You'll like it.

Good Morning, it's a cool morning here in Tennessee and that means its just right for Latakia for me. Since doing these reviews I have tried a lot more Latakia blends than I would have and I am grateful for it. It used to think that Latakia was a very one sided leaf, and I didn't detect a lot of change between blends, but like with anything with experience comes wisdom.

Captain Earles Mystic blend comes in a crumble cake just like all the others. Qhen open my jar I smell woody Latakia, tangy, sour orientals, dark fruits and some Virginia sweetness.. I still like the fact that the cake crumbles into a ribbon, instead of dust. One of my favorite blends is Pirate Kake, but my only gripe about that blend is the amount of Latakia dust left over after you rub some out. Thus rubs out easily like the others, and packs well. I like to put a few chunks in the bottom of my pipe and then fill with ribbon. I don't find it too moist, but like with most blends a little dry time never hurts. It lights really well and it stays lit pretty well.

So taste. I think this is pretty smooth. Smoother than I expected. The Latakia is nice, rich, earthy, and not overpowering. The Orientals are definitely here and they taste sour and incense like. The Perique is here, I can feel it in my nose as well as taste some nice dark fruits every now and again. There are Virginias in here, I think they are a little harder to detect than normal because of everything else that is going on.

The taste is quite full, and the smoke has a tendency to coat my mouth. I enjoy the complexity of the flavors. The strength in this one is a solid medium, I don't think Lady N is trying to grab my attention. All in all a good blend. It's not an all day blend for me, maybe a once or twice a week sort of smoke. I give it three stars.
