The burley is lightly nutty with a little molasses and earth, and is the star component. The perique is more raisiny sweet than spicy as it underscores the experience. The mildly smokey, woody sweet Cyprian latakia is slight, but pushes the flavor up to the mild to medium strength rating. The Turkish is also a light component to add a little wood and butteriness to the lightly fermented dark fruit sweet stoved Virginias. The Turkish is a supporting player. It's slow burning, and may require just a little drying time. I found the burley to be less noticeable when moist. This is best smoked in a wide bowl for full enjoyment. Has a slightly more than mild nic-hit. Burns a little slow, cool, clean and smooth with a very consistent flavor from start to finish. Requires a few relights and leaves just a little moisture in the bowl. The sweet after taste sticks around a little.

The mixture contains some fairly coarse pieces, and is perfectly hydrated. There's a larger amount of brown, than black pieces.

The Burley leads the experience, with the Perique giving a dark-fruitiness. The Latakia gives some depth by adding a woodiness, but no smoky flavour. The Turkish brings a creamy character, smoothing out any ruggedness from the Burley. I find the Virginia last in line, easily. I'm unsure about exactly what the topping is, there's a notable sweetness, but I can't name it. It burns very even, steady, and cool.

Nicotine: medium. Room-note: pleasant.

Nutty Professor? A definite three star blend:

Mostly a Burley/Va blend. There's a smidge of Latakia. I can't taste Perique or other Orientals in the mix, which isn't to say it isn't there. I daresay I'd notice if it weren't there.

I wouldn't call this an English of any kind. Not even an American English.

To my mind this is more akin to a traditional American codger blend with better quality leaf, a touch of seasoning by way of some Lat and Perique and a dressing of something sweet which might or might not be from stoved Va. I'm taking all of that at face value.

It's a very nice blend. It has plenty of flavour and has a nice mouthfeel. Requires a little more re-lights than I am used to.

Not sure why this is listed as no longer in production. My batch was bought from 4 Noggins this year.

Nice blend. Has a lot going on in the taste department. First off tin note is wonderful. Rich nutty smoky smell. Lights very nice and burns slowly and cool. I get a slight nutty smoky taste similar to tin note but not as strong. There is a spicy peppery kick which I am not a fan of but it is there on and off throughout the smoke. Room note is primarily wood smoke smell. This is a decent blend that remains on the milder side of nutty blends I have smoked.

This tobacco is rather strong. If I smoke it outside there's no problem. But if you don't it's pretty overwhelming. At least it was for me. I'm not saying it's not a good tobacco, just that it can be... surprising if you don't take care of some precautions. It's a good tobacco if you like strong taste.

I've had a package from 4noggins, and this stuff was in it as a sampler. I'm smoking it right now in a cob, and it's not bad. Still early to tell anything, So far so good. This stuff has Latakia in it, Perique is present for sure, reminds me of some vapers, not a classic english for sure. I'm half way through the bowl and it's getting better and better. Nice surprise from 4noggins.

This one looked good on paper and has some good reviews that triggered my TAD. Unfortunately, this one didn’t do it for me.

I wish there was a little more of the good stoved Virginia to cover up some of the problems here. Firstly, I’m guessing the culprit is the small Turkish leaf because they can be very time-intensive to unfurl and dry properly, but if not you get pockets of trapped chlorophyll that I taste now and then. Secondly, the processing of the Burley tastes like scorched brown gravy and potato peel (pH tempering needs re-evaluation!). Thirdly, a stale spice like coriander on the finish, possibly from and old batch of Perique, dried and rehydrated.

So why two stars and not one? Well, to be honest, something has to be pretty bad and unredeemable for me to give one star, and I found that doing a charring light then letting it sit for a few minutes helped to clean up some of these off-putting flavors, and the overall balance and mouthfeel aren’t too bad.

I hate to say it but I wonder if something happened in the blending process or supply chain between the transition of Rich leaving and the new owner taking over. This would explain why the older reviews seem to be talking about something entirely different from what I got. Let’s just say this is a cautionary ‘somewhat recommended’ rating if you like living a little dangerously!
