Peterson Special Reserve 2012
(3.64)
This marvellous blend of tobaccos was specially selected for connoisseurs with high expectations.
Using two kinds of black cavendish, one sweet and fresh and the other with a hint of chocolate are blended together with brown cavendish and three different Virginias, rounded off with a hint of exclusive, hand cut Virginia and burley flake. The aroma of this mixture is delicate, sweet and creamy and results in a fragrance of coffee, chocolate and caramel.

This is a great full-bodied aromatic, probably the best I've ever smoked. It lit and smoked easily with wonderful, creamy flavors throughout the bowl. The chocolate flavor is subtle but only gets tastier throughout the bowl. This is a great tobacco.

I am a long time viewer on this website, but I wanted to write my first review for this delightful aromatic as I just wanted to tell someone, anybody, about it.
I happened upon this blend as I had run out of my staple aromatic, Connoisseur's Choice (also by Peterson). I decided to purchase a tin of this Special Reserve just to try something new, and by jove, I'm glad I did.
This blend is somewhat similar to Connoisseur's Choice, both are delightful to smell and both have a sweet and delightful room note. Both are delightful smokers, not burning too hot and the flavour notes always come through - With essences of caramel and chocolate.
The difference with the 2012 reserve is that it has more depth to it. Coffee, chocolate, caramel and rum notes mix with a vanilla sweet peak - Both in the room note and taste.
The taste, room note, strength and sweetness has a grander amount of depth. I haven't missed the Connoisseur's Choice since buying a tin of this stuff. And that, for me, is a big thing to say!
It's pretty much a perfect aromatic blend, for me. Sweet and delightful room note, full of flavoursome depth with a surprisingly full taste. A nicely presented tin, too.
I'd recommend this too all. Each bowl full is a pleasure.

Without opening the pouch inside the tin, one immediately gets the chocolate flavour from this delightful baccy. Once the pouch is opened, more frangrances emerge (miscellaneous fruits, caramel, chocolate, mocha...). The cut is coarse, superb Virginias are used, I can certainly detect the Cavendishes but to a much lesser extent the Burley. Smoked like a charm without any tongue bite, tastes beautifully of Chocolate and Caramel, smells pleasantly to people around you and is so much better than the offering from 2013, which I honestly vehemently disliked. Highly recommended. Grab a tin if you ever see it floating somewhere.

as always, i just love the tin! little work of designer art, utterly useless when done with. but how enjoyable! important stuff now. burns nice and cool, no bite whatsoever. surprisingly keeps the flavors till the very end. it does require some relighting, but personally don't find that troubling. chocolate notes, maybe a hint of coffee(?), somewhere in the back resins? figs? quite distant but adds a nice background.

This is a very pleasant tobacco. It is perfect for a desert after a good lunch/dinner. Works excellent with a 5 o'clock cup of tea 🙂 Overall, I would say 3 out of 4

An other superb mixture from Peterson. Caramel and coffe when opening the tin. The chocolate, coffee and caramel aromas mix perfectly with the tobacco. A first class aromatic which stays aromatic during the smoke (not all aromatics achieve that) without the impression of smoking a candy shop.
Highly recommended therefore. For those who may ask about the design of the tin which could look as a gothic metaphora of old signs (typically Irish isn't it!!)or old traditions: they will discover that the desing is inspired by the hallmarks of the sterling silver ring on the pipes from Peterson!

I had intented to purchase one of the Dunhill's when my tobacconist strongly recommended this instead. The aroma captivated me, and I must say that the smoking experience was very enjoyable indeed. Lovers of aromatics cannot possibly go wrong with this fine tobacco.

I've enjoyed each year that Peterson's comes out with a special edition and I always buy at least one on their reputation alone. Some have been my favorite unfortunately but they are only around for limited time so when I opened this tin I did feel the 'surprise'. It smelled good but good in the sense of 'I've been here before" sort of way only with the mark up of being a Reserve edition. The one thing I have noticed that has displeased me is the room note. While smoking it seems to be mild and pleasant but just by leaving the room and re-entering I am overwhelmed by cigarette smoke effect. Having now finished one tin my whole home smells stale from it. I'm sorry to bring such a dampened report but I'll still try other blends they put out in the future.

a fine tobacco selection almost an art, when i opened the beutiful tin the smell was ubelivible i really wanted to eat the tobacco insted of smoking it (: but the smell can be misleading this tobacco is not for amatures it will bite hard if not packed and smoked proper the taste is really good somewhere between chocolate and dates with a hint of coffie, cant say its a cool smoke well its aromatic but its still cooler then most aromatics i smoked. overall a brilliant selection of tobaccos and very high quality product and a very enjoyable eve smoke

1st Peterson blend I've tried. Not only is the tin very cool looking, the contents are even better. Right off the bat, the tin note screams chocolate covered caramel in a good way. Upon opening the tobacco was perfectly moist took a light like a champ. After only a few puffs in appropiately enough my Peterson Rocky Donegal B2, the wonderful aroma of caramel, chocolate, with a hint of coffee filled the air winning the approval of my girlfriend who normally hates the smell of what I'm smoking. As I got further down the bowl the flavor remained unchanged and stayed relativity cool with 0 bite. Overall one of the best aromatics I've smoked. Can't wait for my next bowl.
