HU Tobacco Out of Africa

Africa, the dark continent – like no other part of the world, it unites mysticism and modern spirit, a plethora of cultures and different ways of living, but also poverty and misery. Wars, hunger, and corruption define this continent just as much as scenic beauty, lush vegetation and pride. “Out of Africa“ ready rubbed flake interprets this great diversity through tremendous varieties in taste, ranging from fruity dry to lively and sweet. Strong flavored burley grades along with dark, pressed Virginia and a hint of perique form the basis of the subtle though seductive flavor which makes this broken flake something special. “Out of Africa“ is an interesting and complex homage to this part on earth and to friends of the finest quality tobacco blends. "…the small stars are always shining when the big sun sets." (Senegalese proverb)
Notes: Aromatic: Hibiscus.

I bought this tobacco because I like the name of this Blend. It sounds mysterious. And it was an good idea. The Out of Africa is a broken middelbrown flake. The tin smell ist sweet, decent fruity and spicy. I can`t define the smell correctly. But it is not the usual German fruit flavour. The Taste of this Blend ist like the tin smell fruity and spicy and good medium strong. After the half of the bowl, the taste of the tobacco gets stronger and the fruit flavour is now in the background, but allways present and in connection with the tobacco base a really nice duo. I smoke not often aromatic tobaccos, but this one is really interesting and not boring. The Out of Africa is not really an aromatic Blend - it`s a blend between aromatical and natural flavour.

The burley has a near-medium strength; nutty with some molasses, earth, wood, and a hint of cocoa. It is the lead component. The dark, pressed Virginia is earthy, mildly tangy, richly dark stewed fruit sweet with some citrus, wood, bread, and a touch of grass. The perique is a minor player, mildly spicy with a few raisin, fig, and date notes, adding some complexity to the blend. The spice is more noticeable once you’re part way into the smoke. The hibiscus topping doesn’t sublimate the ready rubbed tobaccos that much as the burley and Virginias work well together as the major components. The taste is medium, and the strength is a step below that level. The nic-hit is in the center of mild to medium. No bite or harsh spots to be found; burns smooth, clean and cool with few relights at a moderate pace with a very consistent sweet and mildly spicy flavor. Leaves very little moisture in the bowl, and will burn to ash. Requires an average number of relights. Has a lightly lingering, sweet room note and after taste. Can be an all day smoke for the experienced smoker.

Wow . I have never seen a blend like this . Upon opening the tin I was bowled over by the aroma . It smells like the earth , the rain forest , decayed vegetation , fruit , and other undefinable items . A virginia - burley mixture , yes , but not like any other I have ever tasted since I started smoking in 1962 . Smoking was a unique experience . A tobacco that changes character through out the smoke , here and there you realize it's virginia or burley or even perique but it seems to matter not . I was lost in a jungle or a savanah in Africa . A totally different experience and I've , in all humility smoked it all . I can not imagine how Hans conceived or created this mixture but my hat is off to him . Forgive me for not being more specific about the tobacco qualities but this is a " total experience " tobacco , not to be dissected by mortals .

I tried this aromatic by chance. I love Va or Va/Per, I accept a bit of Burley too and Out of Africa seemed to have all of them. Moreover, after a light dinner I’m more tempted to something lighter than my usual 'kicks in the a**' Hoggarts. Knowing HU tobaccos (VAs are top-notch) I trusted its description: and well I did! Not a daily smoker but a tasteful light mixture. The hibiscus has a predominant note but not cover the high quality of tobacco. Very light but mid-bowl Mr. Nik shows up a little more. There’s a touch of good, tangy Perique that I like and emphasise the bouquet. As I stated: not a daily smoker for me but a nice change from now and then.
