Mac Baren Red Velvet
(1.83)
Black as night. Soft as velvet. An exceptional Virginia blend created using the unique Mac Baren production techniques. The blend has a soft and sweet flavour combined with a slight citrus edge. Red Velvet has a pleasant aroma when smoked.

Same characteristics as the green version but it looses flavour (citrics/vanilla maybe?) along the way. I like it but i like more the green one.

I tried this one because I had smoked "green velvet" before. The green one, an average tobacco, had a good impression overall on me. But the red velvet is far from my standards! First of all it is too moist, you better air it for at least 15 min to lower its dampness. The tobacco smells good, but sure you get absolutely nothing of this pleasent smell when smoking, seems that it vanishes away from the first puff ! And it gets worse as you progress,as I had nothing but a taste of ash in the middle of the bowl. The room note is also weak and not noticeable. I will never try it, maybe not even the green velvet, as I can't understand why these two products differ so much!

In my opinion, flavored Virginias hardly ever work (let´s not step into the McClelland ketchup debate for once). Unlike Green Velvet, this one is heavily cased and imprints the leaf with a citric/honey taste that obstructs the quality of the tobacco.

After 12 years of pipe smoking, I have had troubles lighting up the Red Velvet... The blend is a little bit wet! besides I have checked www.Mac-Baren.com and couldn't find anything trace of either Green or Red Velvet in there!

This is a nice tobacco, not so dry and that will reflect on your tries to lit it. The smell is good as well as the tobacco flavor. In my opinion I think green velvet is better than the Red one.
